I'm adding in the final bits which will let you do optional sections just by defining the files (you won't have to manually move stuff into AppNamePortableOptional1 anymore). 22:04:58 That sounds nice. 22:05:06 It uses the standard PA.c Installer icon as the main one now. And generates a proper header BMP with the app's icon for both LTR and RTL language display. 22:05:10 Files/directories I presume? 22:05:16 yup 22:05:25 Good. 22:06:16 One question on that, some apps will have a "langs" or equivalent directory, and you want it to be the optional section, but it silll needs the "langs" directory to be there. Can that be done, or would you need to specify each individual file/folder in it? 22:08:56 ZachThibeau: I reckon you're not strong enough in your post on ie7... 22:17:43 yeah maybe you could add to it 22:17:48 anyways I need to run 22:17:53 I'm going for the weekend now 22:18:27 *** ZachThibeau is now known as ZachT|AFK 22:18:34 Bye ZachT|AFK 22:31:39 ChrisMorgan: You'll be able to do whole directories or just files using a mask. 22:31:51 Ah, good, I like it! 22:31:53 I have it doing whole directories now. You don't need to edit anything within the installer scripts. Just appinfo.ini and (optionally) installer.ini. You can call the installer from the commandline and pass it the base app's directory and it'll compile it. Right now it leaves it on screen though so you have the results. 23:10:55 OK, good :-) 23:11:18 Currently the script just runs makensis.exe which is command-line, but a GUI app is still fine :-) 23:11:58 *** Whibo_ (n=Whibo@135-181.mc.royaume.com) has joined #portableapps 23:12:26 *** Whibo has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)) 23:12:55 I think BPBible leads the pack with support of its PortableApps.com edition... linked to from the homepage, complete build for it... but then, the large majority of our downloads are of the portable edition 23:13:11 Alright... I'm debating something... 23:13:30 I'm making the installer more automated when in use. When you trigger it from the PA.c Menu, it'll just install 23:13:47 When run from the updater, it'll install and then close automatically (allowing chaining of multiple updates) 23:14:15 I have the component page able to detect what type of install you did last time and auto-pick it... skipping the component page for the installer when run from the updater.... 23:14:46 I'm debating whether to have it skip the component page when run from the PA.c platform, too. You'd still be able to run it by itself if you decided to switch components later. 23:15:59 Hmm. With BPBible installing the optional component again will just make it install the books again, even if they've been deleted.. 23:16:03 But normally it won't matter. 23:16:37 normally it's only for additional languages... and only a handful of apps do it 23:16:44 *** daBomb69 (i=daBomb69@unaffiliated/dabomb69) has joined #portableapps 23:16:44 daBomb69 is the awesome person responsible for: Gnumeric Portable http://portableapps.com/node/18311 23:17:37 Cornice is an interesting situation, we had a guy in for support a few weeks ago on a Spanish computer, Cornice ran in Spanish as it uses the Windows language rather than the PA.c one. My eventual advice was to remove the language directory. 23:18:02 Normally though I reckon auto-fill it through the platform as well. 23:18:36 I reckon the vast majority of users will leave the components as they are. So yes, I reckon skip it. 23:18:51 JohnTHaller: would it install the component page items by default, or not? 23:19:25 I'm assuming that on the first install it would ask the user? 23:19:34 yeah. first install it'll ask 23:19:45 subsequent, it'll base it on what was already there 23:20:02 in that case I'd say, skip it ;) 23:20:31 Actually, here's an idea. Just so it doesn't happen for e.g. BPBible, add in an INI option to specify whether the optional section is langauges, and then if the platform is non-English, do it automatically on first run, otherwise ask. 23:22:02 already in there 23:22:08 Good! 23:22:44 I have my phone! :D 23:22:45 thin we're still gonna ask on first run though. someone who prefers spanish but also speaks english may opt to install gimp in english only to save space 23:23:07 Yeah, that's so. 23:24:05 It'd be /nice/ if later we could have subsections done this way, i.e. let the user select which languages they want to install. 23:24:16 WAY too complicated 23:24:27 e.g. FileMask1=de; SectionName=German 23:24:29 yer gonna have to define all sorts of stuff for each app. 23:24:33 multiple directories 23:24:39 multiple sections 23:24:46 I reckon it could be managed, but for the moment it's good as it is. 23:24:51 it would make for a lot of work for each app 23:24:53 Updating would be the hardest bit of it 23:24:57 *** BjornH has quit ("Leaving") 23:24:57 and there's only like 2 apps that actually benefit 23:25:04 gimp and gnucash 23:25:17 everything else, the langs are only a couple megs 23:25:31 Yeah, new releases could be troublesome, needing reassessment to make sure you caught everything. 23:26:24 i think i'm gonna leave components coming up within the pa platform launched installers. user is interacting with it, so it won't be unusua 23:27:27 alright, I need to run to dinner. want me to email you the current build so you can check it out? 23:27:54 I doubt I'll get time to look at it today, but I'd be interested to see it.
