20:37:40 <pa_2856> hello i've been looking at using thunderbird portable and having an issue launching it within a citrix desktop
20:38:28 <pa_2856> i've added rules to allow the executable file to run through our application manager so i am further into my testing
20:38:40 <pa_2856> however, the application just crashes when executable file is launched
20:40:59 <pa_2856> help!
20:41:00 <GizmoBot> pa_2856: Welcome to the PortableApps.com official chatroom. Ask your question and someone should be able to help you shortly. If you still don't get an answer, try posting on the forums: http://portableapps.com/forums
20:41:11 <pa_2856> [15:37] <pa_2856> hello i've been looking at using thunderbird portable and having an issue launching it within a citrix desktop [15:38] <pa_2856> i've added rules to allow the executable file to run through our application manager so i am further into my testing [15:38] <pa_2856> however, the application just crashes when executable file is launched
20:43:35 <Gizmokid2005> pa_2856: do you even get a splash screen?
20:43:44 <pa_2856> no i do not
20:43:44 <Gizmokid2005> Which executable did you allow?
20:43:53 <pa_2856> thunderbird.exe and thunderbirdportable.exe
20:44:00 <Gizmokid2005> How is it installed in Citrix?
20:44:06 <pa_2856> it needs both as adding just one still shows up being blocked
20:44:24 <Gizmokid2005> Yes, ThunderbirdPortable.exe just does some work to launch Thunderbird.exe so they both need to be allowed.
20:44:26 <pa_2856> just using the folder from my documents (redirected to citrix)
20:45:15 <pa_2856> all of our "user profile" folders are redirected to dfs which roam with us in our citrix desktop
20:45:34 <Gizmokid2005> so you have ThunderbirdPortable living in your Citrix Documents folder?
20:45:42 <pa_2856> yes
20:45:57 <pa_2856> along with the other folders (app, data, other etc)
20:46:05 <Gizmokid2005> Do you get any error when it crashes?
20:46:18 <pa_2856> yes very generic error one sec i'll post it

20:51:13 <pa_2856> "total noob here"
20:53:44 <Gizmokid2005> Hrm. It's likely an issue with citrix to some degree. When you try to launch ThunderbirdPortable.exe from the File explorer from Citrix, it tries to launch the app on the citrix server itself, not on your local machine, so it's probably some configuration somewhere that is causing the problem.
20:54:40 <Gizmokid2005> Whether it be security or missing components or something.
20:58:57 <pa_2856> since the path to the file and config files for the profile is on dfs maybe it is having trouble launching that within citrix
20:59:13 <pa_2856> unfortunately i can't see a way to copy the files locally to the server
20:59:20 <pa_2856> as it may be against our company policies
20:59:30 <pa_2856> i'll have to check with our IT staff if that is something we can test
21:00:16 <pa_2856> trying it now on a test box.. stand by...
21:00:45 <pa_2856> okay.. same issue with folder copied to local citrix server
21:02:12 <pa_2856> okay i'll have to keep playing around it with
21:02:20 <Gizmokid2005> Yeah, it's likely not a path issue, it's likely some kind of security issue, something within the actual servers that citrix is running
21:02:25 <Gizmokid2005> or some kind of security set by IT.
21:02:29 <pa_2856> just wanted to make sure that the two exe files were the only ones to have added tot he exception
21:02:39 <Gizmokid2005> That's my best guess. Maybe even missing runtimes that are required.
21:02:48 <Gizmokid2005> pa_2856: to the best of my knowledge that's all you should need.
21:02:57 <pa_2856> okay sounds good. thanks for your help :)
21:03:03 <pa_2856> have a good remainder of the day
