Every time I play any video (local file or network URL) using SMplayerPortable on Windows, mplayer will scan all the fonts in the "C:/Windows/fonts" directory, which delays loading the video by 5-30 seconds (with larger delays on an old computer with low CPU speed and memory). Is there a way this scanning of fonts can be eliminated? 10:30:50 This issue does not seem to exist with the non-portable SMplayer. So, it seems to be specific to the PortableApps version. 10:32:43 the issue is there as well, just not as apparent, it creates a cache of existing fonts, but the portable version as it moves from pc to pc not every computer will have the same fonts installed so it needs to rebuild the cache 10:33:38 as for how to bypass I would look at the smplayer website, there maybe documentation regarding that 10:41:45 +ZachThibeau: I can understand if it has to generate the font cache the first time any video is played using that SMplayerPortable on that computer, but it does it _everytime_ any video is played. So, I suspect that this is a bug in the Portable version. 10:42:09 This problem seems to be documented here as well: http://forum.smplayer.info/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5594 . Unfortunately, it lists no solution that helps me. 10:42:15 I wouldn't know as I stopped using windows a while ago 10:55:10 I see, thanks anyways. 10:56:22 I would post in the forums at least 10:56:39 more specifically in the Other Apps support forums 10:59:35 *** qwebirc90178 has quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds) 13:39:57 *** BeastyCray (dcf54943@gateway/web/freenode/ip.220.245.73.67) has joined #portableapps 13:40:26 HEEEEEEEEELLLO? 13:41:16 *** BeastyCray has parted #portableapps (None) 16:55:56 *** JohnTHaller (~JohnTHall@cpe-24-193-157-130.nyc.res.rr.com) has joined #portableapps 17:11:13 hola John 17:11:18 howdy 17:11:46 how's things? 17:12:11 Not bad. Getting over a nasty cold. Been doing digital maintenance in the meantime. 17:12:13 You> 17:12:35 busy neck deep in code 17:12:55 whatcha working on 17:14:24 well I got my contract work for a web based platform on top of that trying to get Chillplayer decent, ran into some undefined references 17:15:23 just when I think I got one thing fixed another issue crops up lol 17:15:35 No fun. Still think it's worth resurrecting? 17:16:15 well considering I'm working on it from scratch, new codebase entirely, it's practically a new product at this point 17:18:42 I'm working the sound core to use SDL2, decoding audio formats is always fun. I may just dump what I have for decoders and just use ffmpeg as a backend using the libraries like libav etc 17:23:38 the idea for my interface is a plugin based system, so the core is just basically an os portable core, the plugin system will be usable but the autoloaded plugin that will be loaded first would be (platform IE Linux, Windows, OSX)_ui.(os specific dll so windows.dll linux.so and osx.dylib) 17:27:48 Isn't that a little ambitious? I thought you were just gonna rebuild the current codebase and fix a few theming bugs. Maybe ensure the plugin system is working to add a few more codecs. Put more cynically... Do we really need another from-scratch open source media player? 17:29:39 well considering the current system actually has issues that I'm not even sure could be fixed properly without being a further security risk, right now the current template engine for skins has a lot of issues, some deemed a security risk 17:30:25 Yeah, that makes sense. But will you have time alongside PChat and work and life? 17:31:40 my work life right now is that of contract work, so at the moment I have more than enough time 17:34:18 I work on each project about 4 hours a day leaving me with enough free time for my own personal projects 17:35:00 Nice 17:36:33 to a degree lol, it's certainly a fun experience and I enjoy what I do 17:37:37 but social life.. what's that? lol 17:59:16 Heh 18:43:02 *** AlleyKat (~Miranda@188-183-213-253-dynamic.dk.customer.tdc.net) has joined #portableapps 20:42:16 *** JohnTHaller has parted #portableapps (None)
