00:10:21 <rmccue|tv> Hey Kaycisco, how can we help you?
00:10:44 <Kaycisco> hi my name is Kaycisco and my question is "what size flash drive do I need to use portable apps"
00:11:11 <DaveDixonII> Kaycisco: Any size over 256 mb is okay. ;)
00:12:34 <Kaycisco> my friend has photoshop cs3 portable on his flashdrive a 128mb I tried to fix a photo of our cat and it said that the scarch drive was full
00:13:00 <Kaycisco> my spelling is not the best as you can tell
00:13:32 <DaveDixonII> Sorry but you know you might be using an illegal photoshop right?
00:14:25 <Kaycisco> no I have photoshop cs3 on my computer and made a portable version of same
00:15:20 <Kaycisco> maybe i didn't do such a good job when creating portable
00:15:28 <DaveDixonII> Anyways back to the subject ;)

00:15:50 <DaveDixonII> Kaycisco: Any size over 256 mb is okay. 512 mb and more is great. :)
00:16:31 <Kaycisco> so if I get a 2gig it will be even better
00:16:38 <DaveDixonII> Yep. :)
00:17:15 <DaveDixonII> I use a sandisk with the U3 removed and it's working for me.
00:18:24 <Kaycisco> I didn't know that you could talk off u3 I have a 1gig sandisk
00:18:48 <Kaycisco> how would I go about removing u3 from my sandisk?
00:19:12 <DaveDixonII> I do believe its in the settings.
00:19:54 <DaveDixonII> It takes a while for it to remove itself but it gets it done. :)
00:20:18 <Kaycisco> how did you do your?
00:21:43 <DaveDixonII> sandisk.com says "To remove the U3 technology from the drive, simply go to the U3 Launchpad and, under Settings, select U3 Launchpad settings and click Uninstall. This will completely remove the U3 Launchpad from the drive."
00:23:28 <Kaycisco> I think I'll try that, but for now since it is my friend that want this I will use a 256mb drive

03:34:02 <DaveDixonII> Oh...kay
03:34:25 <recipro> Apple already had their last gig
03:34:36 <recipro> which was the last time they're doing it
03:34:40 <recipro> (I think they've had it already)
03:35:12 <Bensawsome> recipro what is up with the macworld 2010 banners.... you have to wonder why they doing that....
03:35:31 <recipro> Apple has said they aren't doing another one
03:35:33 <recipro> so I dunno
03:35:44 <Bensawsome> ya the banners are strange :S
03:36:19 <recipro> Jobs is strange
03:36:26 <recipro> but also genius
03:36:48 <recipro> and probably dying
03:36:54 <rmccue> I think Mapple pulling out of Macworld was a good idea.

03:41:15 <recipro> ?
03:41:42 <rmccue> Jobs discusses his health.
03:41:47 <recipro> I don't buy it
03:41:54 <recipro> I mean sure I may be wrong
03:42:00 <recipro> yea I've seen that though, thanks
03:42:12 <recipro> maybe I am just a bit paranoid
03:42:15 <rmccue> Why wouldn't you buy it?
03:42:33 <recipro> Jobs = Apple, and they're slowly trying to turn away from that
03:42:38 <recipro> and succeeding might I add
03:42:54 <recipro> but when so much rests on the shoulder of one's "fearless leader" so to speak
03:43:06 <recipro> you have to watch their PR
03:43:16 <recipro> not so much talking about products
03:43:19 <recipro> but talking about stock
03:43:39 <rmccue> Jobs mainly made Apple what it is today, but he's not all Apple has.
03:44:15 <recipro> I would put money on the fact that still right now, if there were hints of Jobs not being there anymore, and slowly or even quickly fading away from Apple
03:44:31 <recipro> their stock would make a tapered drop
03:44:39 <recipro> you're very right Ryan
03:44:42 <recipro> he's not, I agree
03:45:06 <recipro> but we're talking about stock holders here, not customers or innovative egineers
03:45:08 <rmccue> Any stock would make a drop if their CEO was about to quit/resign/die, it's a period of uncertainty.
03:45:14 *** PatrickPatience has quit (Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer))
03:45:16 <recipro> indeed
03:45:32 <recipro> but Apple is still at a point where it can't afford big drops
03:45:39 <rmccue> I believe Microsoft's went down when Gates left, yet they're one of the strongest companies around.
03:45:41 <recipro> but I do say, they're slowly getting away from that
03:45:54 <recipro> eventually Apple will be strong enough to take even the biggest pops
03:46:04 <recipro> and I support them every step of the way
03:46:24 <recipro> except with the iPhone
03:46:25 <recipro> :(
03:46:39 <rmccue> Why not the iPhone?
03:46:58 <recipro> other companies have been trying to catch up to Apple with the iPhone and are actually going to start passing
03:47:04 <recipro> Samsung is one
03:47:15 <recipro> the Instinct overall is remarkably a better phone
03:47:18 <rmccue> Android looks interesting, IMHO.
03:47:32 <rmccue> Technology will get better as time progresses.
03:47:38 <Bensawsome> true true.......
03:47:39 <recipro> I am hoping that Apple will break it's limit to AT&T
03:47:49 <recipro> that will do wonders for them and the iPhone
03:47:58 <Bensawsome> im hoping that att will go down in a F***ing hole
03:48:04 <recipro> if they want to compete in that arena, they need to compete all around
03:48:18 <rmccue> My über-speculative theory is that Apple will make an iPhone using the CPU from the MacBook Air.
03:48:21 <recipro> Samsung has phones for multiple carriers, as does LG
03:48:26 <recipro> Motorolla and so on
03:48:30 <rmccue> Or some modification thereof.
03:48:34 <recipro> Apple needs to get in line with the same idea ya know
03:48:44 <rmccue> Bensawsome: I doubt that, they've been around for quite a while.
03:49:13 <recipro> I have to say I went back to Sprint
03:49:23 <recipro> when I got another phone after not having one for a long time
03:49:31 <Bensawsome> rmccue they still need to die....
03:49:36 <recipro> even though I think VW has better phones
03:49:42 <recipro> but I can't STAND Verizon
03:49:50 <recipro> for personal, financial and other reasons
03:49:53 <Bensawsome> first: they basically MAKING edge users switch over to 3g by slowing their already slow connections
03:50:04 <Bensawsome> 2: they have had several outages!!!
03:50:05 <Bensawsome> WTF
03:50:19 <Bensawsome> plus they overall suck
03:50:29 <recipro> rmccue: when you start to see different makes of iPhone available for different carriers
03:50:32 <recipro> it'll be a great thing
03:50:47 <recipro> I still am not a fan of the iPhone, but I think that would be a great step to make
03:50:48 <rmccue> Bensawsome: I believe that your EDGE network is still considerably faster than our broadband speeds here. (on avg)

04:42:53 <ZachThibeau> I used to do photoshop but I switched to Gimp :P
04:43:25 <ZachThibeau> in fact GIMP can use Photoshop brushes natively and some filters too :)
04:44:17 <Koontay> GIMP is groovilivious, but when I first started photo editing, GIMP baffled me and I was lost. Then I joined a tech high school and I learned to use Photoshop. SO I've been using photoshop.
04:45:37 <ZachThibeau> I started out with GIMP but the used Photoshop but I prefered GIMP as I found it had an easier interface than photoshop but it does take some getting used to (with gimp or photoshop :) )
04:46:40 <Koontay> Yeah. I suppose Photoshop has a hard interface, but if you figure it out you can do a lot. The thing with GIMP is the add ons. You can add so much more stuff to it.

09:52:32 <pa_7270> I was told that firefox portable does not work with real player. It seems that was an blind assumption.
09:53:37 <pa_7270> I thought of checking that with http://music.galatta.com/, this time firefox portable was able to play the music. It is a requirement of the site to have real player installed.
09:55:30 <pa_7270> So I come to conclusion that there is some other reason for why the firefox portable was not able to play the music from www.raaga.com

10:19:34 <ZachThibeau> icook1: how can we assist you today
10:20:10 <icook1> Hi - new to all this so I have managed to disconnect myself from a previos chat session. apologies to whom ever picked up my new chat a few moments ago. I was saying that I have doing great with the published portable apps but from what I read I should be able to create my own using Appcompactor. Its installed and part of the portable apps suite and it seems to run ok (I'm running it from my U3 stick) but I never s
10:20:43 <ZachThibeau> icook1: the app compactor only compresses apps it doesn't make apps portable
10:21:06 <ZachThibeau> icook1: but it's a part of the process though ;)
10:21:30 <icook1> ok but where does the compressed outputs go and how do I complete the process
10:21:49 <ZachThibeau> it replaces the current files
10:23:43 <icook1> Timestamps don't seem to change though
10:25:03 <ZachThibeau> but does the filesize though ;) thats the key there
10:26:13 <icook1> So if I have a favourite utility on my server and want to use it off my flash, should I copy the whole app to the falsh and compress it there?
10:26:25 <ZachThibeau> it's up to you
10:26:38 <ZachThibeau> it doesn't matter as long you provide the path in the app compactor
10:27:38 <icook1> Hang on a moment
10:29:51 *** ZachThibeau has quit ("Leaving")
10:30:16 <icook1> so if I compress on my hard drive and then move it all over to the flash it all works fine??
10:34:49 <icook1> pabot:
10:35:26 <rmccue> pabot is a bot :)
10:36:09 <icook1> as you can see above this is new territory for me so appreciate the assistance
10:36:53 <rmccue> But yes, compressing on your hard drive will work fine.
10:37:08 <rmccue> However, as Zach mentioned, it won't make an app portable.
10:38:25 <icook1> so it seems but safer on the stick in case the app turns out incompatible
10:39:50 <rmccue> It doesn't matter where you compress it.
10:40:05 <icook1> and then it seems the app runs from the stick fine. However, you seem to imply the app even on the stick is not really portable so what am i missing here
10:40:27 <rmccue> All you're doing is making the executable smaller.
10:40:51 <rmccue> You're not actually making it portable, that's a completely different process.
10:41:18 <icook1> so what defines a "portable app"
10:41:46 <rmccue> It takes its settings with it.
10:42:36 <icook1> you mean registry settings and config files?
10:42:47 <rmccue> Yes.
10:43:04 <rmccue> And, ideally, leaves as little files behind.
10:43:30 <icook1> So do I need to be a developer to do this - I'm just a travelling fix it man
10:43:53 <rmccue> You may find some success with tutorials and example code on the forums.
10:44:07 <rmccue> There's no "magic fix" that you can just apply to everything though.
10:45:36 <icook1> fair enough - you are speaking of the devlopment forum here?
10:45:47 <rmccue> Correct.
10:46:46 <icook1> Many thanks - appreciate your help. Going on hols next week so will explore then. Have a great day.

13:52:13 <Gizmokid2005> that's all it really needs is some aliasing options and it'd be golden

17:15:46 <Gizmokid2005> blah, I want to go back to KVIrc, but I need to know how to remap the key mappings for deleting a word and I need visual notifications

17:19:37 <SteveLamerton> Fair enough

22:39:15 <magma> i want to take *everything* off
