03:35:22 <gluxon> Restore the registry key.
03:35:41 <OliverK> i'm looking at code in vti portable and I'm seeing a label that says its for restoring a key on 9x
03:35:43 <gluxon> Merge \Data\Settings\AkelPadPortableSettings.reg into the registry.
03:35:47 <gluxon> :)

03:37:28 <OliverK> http://oliverkrystal.pastebin.com/m4c3dc042
03:37:29 <OliverK> check that
03:37:33 <gluxon> The Registry Plugin for NSIS mentioned that code.
03:38:39 <gluxon> It said you could do the same thing with regedit and parameters, but I tried that too and it didn't work as well :'(
03:39:26 <gluxon> I'm pretty sure that's basically the same thing as regedit /S $SETITNGSDIRECTORY\AkelPadPortable.reg
03:39:29 <gluxon> though.
03:40:23 <gluxon> 7-Zip uses that as a 2nd attempt if the output for the registry plugin is -1.
03:41:22 <OliverK> it uses that for 9x based systems
03:41:29 <OliverK> what do you mean it didn't work as well?
03:41:45 <OliverK> i've used that code for everything that needed registry access and it worked fine
03:43:06 <Gizmokid2005> anyone recall an app that we have right now that uses cmd line switches in the launcher?
03:43:22 <OliverK> the updator did
03:43:29 <OliverK> oh, the installer as well
03:43:43 <OliverK> shouldm't be hard

03:44:21 <Gizmokid2005> no
03:44:25 <Gizmokid2005> where the launcher actually sets them.

03:44:34 <OliverK> oh
03:44:37 <OliverK> heh :D
03:44:38 <Gizmokid2005> I was going to say pidgin, but that actually modifies envvars

05:43:17 <rouilj1> What is the preferred way of installing a portable java? Use Java_Portablizer_1.1.paf.exe (running standalone and not invoked via the menu's install application), or using Java_Portable_6_Update_18_online.paf.exe?
05:45:08 <OliverK> probably run the portablizer and then the update
05:45:12 <OliverK> but, really, I do not know
05:45:19 <OliverK> try running the update first :)
05:45:34 <OliverK> if it doesn't work, run portabilizer 1.1 and the the update :D
05:49:33 <rouilj1> thanks for the thoughts. I did run the portabilizer from the menu originally and ended up with a broken install (it was put into portableapps/javaportabilizer and not into portableapps/common/java like it should have been). Since I had a java 6.18 installed on my system that's what it ended up portabilizing.
05:50:58 <rouilj1> so I have a working install currently (after manually running the portabiliizer) at 6.18 I am just wondering for future releases (or creating an install on a host without java installed)
05:51:08 <rouilj1> which is preferred.
06:06:23 <ChrisMorgan> NO
06:06:36 <ChrisMorgan> Java Portable is the only way you should do it now.
06:06:40 <OliverK> well, that's abrupt
06:06:52 <ChrisMorgan> 6 Update 18 is the Java version number
06:07:15 <ChrisMorgan> For some strange reason, Java can't just call their releases "6.0.18", they have to call them "6.0 Update 18"
06:08:00 <ChrisMorgan> The portablizer copied a local instance to the USB disk. That method is now deprecated.

23:30:22 <Spaceghost> why nothing KDE app is in portable apps? the project for KDE on windows have some apps very stable and useful
23:30:49 <OliverK> no one has shown interest in them yet
23:30:56 <JohnTHaller> Most of KDE on windows involves installing the huge KDE environment first and then apps on top of that. It's not portable
23:30:59 <OliverK> or no one has the time to work on them
23:31:17 <JohnTHaller> Most GTK apps are self-contained and stable and have large user-bases already.
23:35:05 <JohnTHaller> To be honest, I don't think KDE apps on Windows will catch on unless they divorce themselves from the idea of having the huge KDE install and having to use the KDE installer. Sure, existing KDE users will do it. But no one is gonna go through all that to try out one app.
