05:03:49 <sar3th> hi ChrisMorgan :)
05:03:57 <sar3th> how's the documentation progressing?
05:04:16 <ChrisMorgan> It's been on leave for the past few days
05:04:29 <sar3th> "on leave"?
05:04:41 <ChrisMorgan> Just now I'm looking at the Inkscape installer, trying to figure out what I did in 0.47 that broke the uninstaller... and I've just found it :-/

05:43:56 <computerfreaker> Hi guys!
05:44:15 <Chazz> 'ello computerfreaker
05:44:31 <computerfreaker> ChrisMorgan: got a quick question about PAL & directory handling, if you've got a minute
05:51:16 <ChrisMorgan> Approximately
05:51:19 <ChrisMorgan> I'm about to go
05:51:23 <ChrisMorgan> Feel free to ask though
05:51:28 <computerfreaker> thanks
05:51:36 <ChrisMorgan> Even if I go I'll see it in the logs
05:52:00 <computerfreaker> if I have a DirectoriesMove section, do I need to specify a DirectoriesCleanupIfEmpty section as well, to clean out any empty leftover folders?
05:52:25 <ChrisMorgan> Not for that directory. If it is in a subdirectory which may not exist before though, that's when you need it.
05:52:33 <computerfreaker> also, there's a RegistryValueBackupDelete section; is there a corresponding DirectoriesBackupDelete section for folders?
05:52:48 <ChrisMorgan> e.g. %APPDATA%\Publisher\AppName would need a CleanupIfEmpty for %APPDATA%\Publisher.
05:52:57 <computerfreaker> ok, thanks
05:53:25 <ChrisMorgan> DirectoriesBackupDelete would be...
05:53:34 <ChrisMorgan> umm...
05:53:40 <ChrisMorgan> Don't have my docs here at the moment :-/
05:53:53 <computerfreaker> I looked through the helpfile and didn't see anything
05:54:02 <ChrisMorgan> Probably just DirectoriesMove
05:54:23 <computerfreaker> for things like %USERPROFILE%\Cookies, though?
05:55:13 <ChrisMorgan> Ulp...
05:55:18 <computerfreaker> an app I'm working on creates some cookies in %USERPROFILE%\Cookies; I'm trying to just get rid of them
05:55:30 <ChrisMorgan> That won't be a directory then, just a file, wouldn't it?
05:55:45 <ChrisMorgan> Anyway, there is no %USERPROFILE%\Cookies
05:56:04 <computerfreaker> no, multiple files. I could cover the current release with a couple of move-file instructions, but that might break later on
05:57:16 <computerfreaker> and yes, there is %USERPROFILE%\Cookies - just double-checked to be sure
05:58:41 <computerfreaker> ah, don't worry about it; I'll just stick some file-moving calls in there. Something else just occurred to me: the app has a "keep me logged in" setting, which probably depends on the existence of the cookies.
05:58:54 <computerfreaker> So, file backup & restore is probably cleanest at this point
05:59:03 <ChrisMorgan> The location where IE cookies go for me is C:\Documents and Settings\cjmor16\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
05:59:10 <ChrisMorgan> And that's what it's always been
05:59:18 <ChrisMorgan> Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
05:59:25 <ChrisMorgan> Not sure about Vista/7
05:59:26 <computerfreaker> huh, that's weird. I'm getting C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Cookies on this machine
05:59:33 <computerfreaker> XP Home SP3
05:59:36 <ChrisMorgan> You must have a strange configuration.
06:00:00 <ChrisMorgan> This is XP Pro SP3
06:00:15 <ChrisMorgan> But Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files is what I've always seen...
06:00:34 <ChrisMorgan> Bye, I'm off now. Otherwise (and possibly even so...) I'm going to be late for tea.
06:00:37 <computerfreaker> weird. I wonder what's up with this one? Time for some poking around

06:47:34 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> hello JohnTHaller, sounds like a busy night
06:48:12 <JohnTHaller> Gizmokid2005|AFK: Indeed. Long coding session. Got the updater's rewritten version doing everything that the old one with my bandaids did... but much more efficiently and with code you can actually follow.
06:48:27 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> that's always a major plus :)
06:48:27 <sar3th> and of course we want to see the updater's current state :D
06:48:41 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> yes, what sar3th said ^^
06:49:09 <JohnTHaller> Hang on, I'll PM it to you both. Please don't share it publicly yet.
06:49:20 <sar3th> okay :)
06:49:44 <JohnTHaller> That's using the live feed on PA.c for app updates.
06:49:45 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> looks good, I do have a question though about size.
06:49:51 <sar3th> looking good :D
06:49:52 <JohnTHaller> What about it?
06:50:22 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> for the size of the actual update window, are you going to keep it the same size as the installers currently are, or are you going to stretch it a bit more to fit more info on it?
06:50:39 <JohnTHaller> Currently, it's limited by NSIS itself.
06:50:58 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> I wondered about that.
06:51:09 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> that's always been a pet peeve of mine, locked window sizes within apps.
06:51:15 <JohnTHaller> This is just the current updater. I'm working on a rewrite in Delphi.
06:51:24 <JohnTHaller> That will have much more flexibility
06:51:32 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> ahh, neato :)
06:51:33 <JohnTHaller> But this I can get out there quickly.
06:51:40 <sar3th> cool
06:51:42 <sar3th> :)
06:51:51 <JohnTHaller> It's nearly done, actually. I don't see any problem with putting it in 2.0 Beta 4 this week
06:52:03 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> you mean beta 5 ;)
06:52:17 <JohnTHaller> Yes, Beta 5.
06:52:51 <JohnTHaller> I have it working in silent mode from the PA.c Menu, too... so it can silently check for updates and not say anything if there aren't any.
06:53:20 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> that's cool
06:53:31 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> if it's an auto-check it shouldn't annoy the user after it checks and finds nothing
06:53:36 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> I hate that about so much MS stuff.
06:54:16 <JohnTHaller> Yeah. If you do Help - Check for Updates, it'll show a banner while it's checking and then let you know there are none. But in auto mode, it won't do anything if there are no updates. If there are, you get the update window with the list of apps directly
06:54:47 <Gizmokid2005|AFK> that's good

18:29:48 <ZachThibeau> howdy JohnTHaller
18:31:20 <JohnTHaller> How goes it?
18:32:04 <JohnTHaller> ZachThibeau: Ah you missed the update on the updater last night. Wanna see a screenshot?
18:32:24 <ZachThibeau> still trying to track that localization issue and messing around with spell check and trying to add it to PChat and sure hit me with it
18:35:54 <Gizmokid2005> JohnTHaller: it goes...I have an off-site meeting here shortly...actually had to go into the office today...yay for being in charge of billing!!
18:36:19 <JohnTHaller> That's the new rewritten updater. It's feature set just met and exceeded the hacked version of the old one as of this morning at 3am.
18:37:14 <JohnTHaller> Looks like I should be able to drop PA.c Platform 2.0 Beta 5 with the Updater tonight or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow at this point as underslept and overcaffeinated isn't condusive to coding for me at the moment.
18:37:59 <ZachThibeau> yay for new release beta as it may be :D
18:40:27 <JohnTHaller> The new theming is just about done, too. We're tweaking the theme a bit (as well as the site). Meeting with the designer tomorrow night to finalize the look of categories in the next beta.
18:41:25 <ZachThibeau> very nice
18:41:51 <Gizmokid2005> well, I'm off guys, see ya!

18:59:52 <joby> Question regarding PChat
19:00:00 <joby> Where is the Favorites menu?
19:00:10 <joby> how can I access the favorites?
19:00:44 <joby> I can add channel to fovorites but then I don't know where those are
19:00:50 <joby> Thank you!
19:01:05 <ZachThibeau> select file and in the network menu click the server you are going to use and click edit
19:01:28 <ZachThibeau> you should see an option there for favourites
19:02:36 <joby> found them! kinda'odd placement! :)

19:13:11 <qwertymodo> ZachThibeau congrats on getting PChat out and official
19:13:36 <ZachThibeau> thanks and qwertymodo I have a new vba-m for you if you want it?
19:14:20 <qwertymodo> ok, not sure when I'll have time to test it out, but I'll see what I can do
19:14:42 <JohnTHaller> qwertymodo: Wanna see the current updater screenshot? Gonna drop this week.
19:14:55 <qwertymodo> sure
19:15:03 <ZachThibeau> just give me your email in a pm and I'll send you the email for it later as atm I'm having some PChat localization issues
19:16:01 <JohnTHaller> That's the version from last night. Got the rewrite to surpass the functionality of the old one I'd bandaided to get working properly. So many more possibilities now.

19:16:42 <qwertymodo> that's awesome
19:16:45 <qwertymodo> looks good too
19:17:12 <qwertymodo> is the updater the only thing holding back 2.0?
19:17:36 <JohnTHaller> Thanks. It's working well. It does look like I'll need to tweak the current PA.c Installer, though. 1.0.2 produces a brief flash of a window when set in hidden mode, unfortunately. It's a distraction for the user who wants it updating while they continue to work.
19:18:28 <JohnTHaller> No, updater is going in Beta 5 this week. And categories are going in Beta 6.
19:19:03 <qwertymodo> so categories in 2.0? awesome :)

19:26:21 <JohnTHaller> I enjoy it. It's about usability and design... balancing the temptation to go overboard with the need to keep things simple and functional.
19:27:42 <qwertymodo> well i guess that's a good thing that you enjoy it, seeing as how a menu application is mostly UI work
