00:28:19 <JohnTHaller> Hola
00:28:23 <ChrisMorgan> Hey JohnTHaller
00:28:46 <ChrisMorgan> It's so horrible working with Command Prompt now that I've got used to the power of bash...
00:28:59 <JohnTHaller> heh
00:29:21 <JohnTHaller> Wanna see the new updater work?
00:29:23 <ChrisMorgan> AND I left my SSH key at home, so even though I've got hg now here at Uni (on Windows) I can't push :-(
00:29:26 <ChrisMorgan> Sure :-)
00:29:28 <JohnTHaller> Ouch
00:30:34 <ZachThibeau> :O
00:31:10 <JohnTHaller> Configurable how?
00:31:30 <JohnTHaller> (Chris asked if it was configurable)
00:31:32 <ChrisMorgan> I mean can you turn off whether it shows the category labels etc.
00:31:34 <ZachThibeau> very nice John :), still coded in nsis or in Delphi?
00:31:40 <JohnTHaller> NSIS still
00:31:48 <ChrisMorgan> Just with a modified mui.exe
00:32:16 <JohnTHaller> ChrisMorgan: No, the add screen shows the apps by category (just like the site). The update screen just shows the app list normally by alpha.
00:32:16 <ChrisMorgan> I was wondering whether EmbeddedLists would cope with the different size; I imagined so but one never can be sure...
00:32:40 <ChrisMorgan> Ah. That's better then
00:32:49 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, lemme screenshot it...
00:32:55 <ChrisMorgan> I didn't manage to notice it was just for installing new ones
00:33:06 <ChrisMorgan> "The verb 'to screenshot'"
00:33:44 <ChrisMorgan> Are you using 175 for the overline? If so how does that cope with different codepages?
00:34:54 <JohnTHaller> Yes. It should show up properly, in theory. We'll know when we do the beta :-)
00:36:46 <JohnTHaller> PMed you it in update mode.
00:37:16 <ZachThibeau> excellent, so when is beta 5 going to be released?
00:37:25 <JohnTHaller> As soon as I finish these bits.
00:37:51 <ZachThibeau> nice
00:37:58 <JohnTHaller> Those are both screenshots of it working in its current state pulling all that from the server. I'm still working on some translation stuff, having the progress bar match where you are in terms of downloading and installing multiple apps, etc.
00:38:21 <ChrisMorgan> That's fiddly.
00:38:53 <ChrisMorgan> "XAMPP Launcher" doesn't download XAMPP I presume?
00:38:56 <JohnTHaller> It includes a base set of icons on install (for the add window) and will download any for the ones that are in update.ini but not installed or in the base set automatically, so we always have our app icons.
00:39:08 <JohnTHaller> ChrisMorgan: Nope. Hopefully we'll do XAMPP Portable at some point.
00:39:25 <ChrisMorgan> BTW, I've discovered that XAMPP 1.7.3's setup_xampp.bat actually includes an exclude-drive-letter option for the user
00:39:35 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, I saw that
00:39:40 <ChrisMorgan> Previously I'd put in that hack myself, now it's automatically there for the user to choose.
00:40:14 <ChrisMorgan> I'm just debating whether to do it with setup_xampp.bat (or calling the PHP script directly) or with TextReplace in PAL.
00:40:29 <ChrisMorgan> I think it's just the path which needs coping with.
00:42:11 <JohnTHaller> Urgh... migraine coming,,,
00:42:43 <ChrisMorgan> :-(

01:51:31 <pa_1524> Hi Is there a portable app I can use to password protect my microdrive from inappropriate use? Jack
01:52:25 <JohnTHaller> You have two options.
01:52:50 <JohnTHaller> Encrypt the whole drive with something like TrueCrypt, but then you can only use your drive on PCs where you can log in with administrative rights.
01:53:07 <JohnTHaller> Or buy a drive with hardware encryption built into it that will let you protect it and use it on any PC.
01:54:15 <pa_1524> OK, Thanks. Sounds like the answer is no for me. Using Cruzer 16GB drive.
01:54:58 <JohnTHaller> There are some pseudo-protection options that will keep about 95% of users out. We're going to do a tool for that in the next month or so.
01:55:18 <pa_1524> OK. I'll check in again later.
01:55:49 <JohnTHaller> On your Cruzer, you could enable U3 to password protect it. I'm not sure how good it is anymore. It was easy to defeat last I checked a couple years ago
01:55:57 <JohnTHaller> Of course, then you have to deal with the U3 menu running all the time.
01:56:51 <pa_1524> Dont see where that is.
01:57:44 <pa_1524> Oh yes, "enable security". easy to break though?

03:53:33 <ChrisMorgan> ZachThibeau: I'm now up to "abort: no suitable response from remote hg!"... and still getting nowhere :-(
03:53:43 <ChrisMorgan> JohnTHaller, what's the general idea with running Pageant in PuTTY Portable?
03:53:56 <ZachThibeau> been meaning to change the description on sf but kept on forgetting
03:55:22 <ChrisMorgan> Oh goodie, I'm now able to commit to PAL here at Uni :-)
03:56:16 <ChrisMorgan> JohnTHaller, what do you reckon on this launcher.ini / Launcher\*.ini thing?
03:56:24 <ChrisMorgan> I really don't know what to decide...
03:56:42 <ChrisMorgan> And when did you sneak the bit about launcher.ini into the PAF specs?
03:57:49 <JohnTHaller> I think it was in there when I first published it. Haven't changed it since then.
03:58:00 <ChrisMorgan> What, since before PAL?
03:58:19 <JohnTHaller> Yeah. It was always planned, so I put it in there then.
03:59:22 <ChrisMorgan> Hmm, I see it was there when I converted the specs to RST
04:00:36 <ZachThibeau> anyways PChat's sf.net description is updated
04:08:08 <ZachThibeau> JohnTHaller: ok new version uploaded with the missing dll files included now the url is the same one though
04:11:07 <ChrisMorgan> I really think locales should be moved into an optional section - they come to about 20MB in GTK and PChat together.
04:12:00 <ZachThibeau> ChrisMorgan: this isn't for the portable version btw
04:12:14 <ChrisMorgan> Whether it is or not, what I'm saying is true :-)
04:12:35 <ChrisMorgan> ZachThibeau: does the non-portable version have an installer?
04:13:23 <ZachThibeau> that it does and I'm including it with this release (since the portable version includes it already) and next version will have it as optional
04:14:18 <ChrisMorgan> What, languages?
04:14:23 <ZachThibeau> I'm going for consistency ;) and yes

15:47:14 <Gizmokid2005> you wanted me last night?
15:47:33 <JohnTHaller> Oh I was just gonna show you updater progress if you were around... but you weren't :-P
15:47:38 <Gizmokid2005> ahh
15:47:54 <Gizmokid2005> yeah, early night last night. Nicole had to be to the hospital at 7:30 this morning for an ultrasound
15:49:48 <JohnTHaller> Ah, how is she doing?
15:50:15 <Gizmokid2005> We're thinking her gall bladder is having issues, we won't know anything for 48 hours :(
15:50:41 <JohnTHaller> Ugh, sorry to hear, man. Let me know how it turns out. I'll think some good thoughts for her.
15:51:05 <Gizmokid2005> Thanks :) We're hoping maybe it's just stones, something easy to take care of, surgery won't be easy with no insurance.
15:52:12 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, stones are painful, but not too bad medically. My dad had kidney stones ... I think before the donation.
15:53:01 <Gizmokid2005> yeah, my mom had stones, but her gall bladder was in such bad shape they had to remove it. it's a relatively easy procedure, they say less than 1 day to recover, so if it comes down to it, she should be ok. At this point we're just looking for a fix.
15:53:59 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, I hear ya. We
15:54:14 <JohnTHaller> Well, here's hoping it's the easiest (and least expensive) issue.
15:54:21 <Gizmokid2005> Thanks.
15:54:43 <Gizmokid2005> its really bad timing, with the wedding coming up in 10 days, it could've been timed a bit better.
15:54:53 <Gizmokid2005> we've got a bit of the bad mixed in witht he good.
15:55:07 <JohnTHaller> Yeah. Life does seem to work like that far too often.
15:55:27 <Gizmokid2005> yes it does.

15:58:08 <JohnTHaller> True true
15:58:52 <Gizmokid2005> I can't get insurance through work since the knocked me to part time, and nicole's job doesn't offer it since there's only 3 office workers...and to go with something like Blue Cross Blue Sheild for an individual plan for the two of us is $300/mo minimum...

16:06:56 <Gizmokid2005> JohnTHaller: that's why I'm not too keen on the whole health care bill obama is trying to pass, I don't see it helping those of us who really need insurance but can't afford it. I see it more as lining the pockets of health care companies even more...which is /just/ what they need...
16:06:58 <JohnTHaller> Gizmokid2005: Have you looked into catastrophic coverage? It has a high deductible but covers major surgeries, etc. The premiums are far less than regular health insurance
16:07:27 <Gizmokid2005> JohnTHaller: I thought about it...I may even look into catastrophic with medicaid, because that covered my family with my sister when she was burned really bad.
16:07:45 <JohnTHaller> Gizmokid2005: There are some solid provisions in the bill about pooling and things like that specifically targeting those who can't afford it at all and those of us who pay direct (and get pickpocketed for it)
16:08:15 <Gizmokid2005> Oh I know...but it's still not really controlling rates...they need to get costs/premiums under control before they think about mandating coverage.
16:08:57 <JohnTHaller> There's a TON of things they need to do to get costs under control.
16:09:06 <Gizmokid2005> absolutely
16:09:15 <Gizmokid2005> I believe that's where they should start...really.
16:09:41 <Gizmokid2005> I mean, it's bad enough, at least in MI, that auto insurance is mandated, but here we can opt to not have a car, and no insurance, but with the proposed bill...well..not so much
16:10:18 <JohnTHaller> Auto insurance should absolutely be mandatory. Otherwise when you hit somebody and they have medical bills, they're screwed.
16:10:57 <JohnTHaller> I find it odd that auto insurance is SO much cheaper than health insurance... considering the damage you can do with a car.
16:11:07 <Gizmokid2005> at the same time, I agree but I don't. That's whats mandated here, PL/PD, at very minimum, and I agree...but it's something you can choose not to have by making the choice to not have a vehcile
16:11:09 <Gizmokid2005> *vehicle
16:11:38 <JohnTHaller> Right. Same here. I don't have a car. I work from home usually. When I don't, I take the subway to the empire state building.
16:11:57 <JohnTHaller> But I grew up in CT with a car and insurance for it.
16:12:01 <Gizmokid2005> I've always had full coverage on my truck, just in case. It's nice to see my premiums go down finally as well. I've got $250 deductibles with broadform collision and my renewal is finally under $800/6 months
16:12:17 <Gizmokid2005> when I first got this truck i was paying almost $1300 every 6...
16:12:22 <Gizmokid2005> that was irritating, and the coverage wasn't as good
16:12:34 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, when I was under 25, the rates in CT were absurd.
16:14:19 <Gizmokid2005> Yep. Since I'm getting married, I looked at adding nicole to my policy too, with her car and just PL/PD (not worth more than $500 anyways) and it will only bring my rates up ~$30/mo. So only $200 for six months added to my policy
16:14:21 <Gizmokid2005> which is really nice

16:22:20 <JohnTHaller> I'm debating going with a longer short description instead of app type (which is sub-category)... but that presents translation issues.
16:22:23 <Gizmokid2005> I do like the way it looks though :) Much nicer with the bigger size.
16:22:37 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, I think so. I think the categories help with adding apps a lot, too.
16:23:30 <Gizmokid2005> yeah..unless you can somehow integrate it with the website translations...
16:23:40 <Gizmokid2005> but even then, /most/ apps are pretty self explanatory
16:24:21 <JohnTHaller> Gizmokid2005: I'm working on integrating it. It'll be done for our 5 major langs we support intiially on the site. But sub-categories are easier to translate for now.
16:24:58 <Gizmokid2005> Yeah. Translations do get tricky
16:25:23 <Gizmokid2005> just recently there was a translation snaffu with KVirc that was pretty interesting to watch.
16:25:54 <JohnTHaller> Haveing 'Web Browser' translated once and used for Google Chrome, Firefox and soon Flock and Opera is much easier than trying to do one for each of em.
16:26:02 <Gizmokid2005> exactly
16:30:49 <Gizmokid2005> and as for KVirc, in DT10 I fixed the launcher up to handle (rather just remove) the Qt Plugin Cache reg entries.
16:30:51 <OliverK> looks goot
16:30:53 <Gizmokid2005> so it should be completely clean again.

20:17:10 <Bensawsome> cooooool
20:18:13 <ZachThibeau> very nice
20:19:00 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, nother good lead from CES. They seem to get what their customers and clients want, which is always a great thing to see.
20:22:11 <ZachThibeau> excellent, glad to see things going well then
20:26:34 <JohnTHaller> Yup. And it just inspires me to do more and more, which is nice. Going to the gym for the 10th day in a row and being on an adrenaline high from that helps, too :-)
20:27:17 <ZachThibeau> makes me want to go to the gym more often now :P
