07:35:51 <ChrisMorgan> Sorry about that, not sure when it died.
07:36:41 <Gringoloco> about 10 hours ago, and it was being weird, see the last log !
07:36:44 <ChrisMorgan> No more than 9 hours of logs lost, I'd say. Possibly due in some way to a netsplit.
07:37:20 <ChrisMorgan> Anyway, it's back in now.
07:37:30 <Gringoloco> so what's happening ?
07:38:16 *** taneth111 has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
07:38:28 <ChrisMorgan> Nothing in particular, I'd say.

07:39:13 <Gringoloco> Did I read you are planning to make the next PAL entirely in C ???
07:40:06 <ChrisMorgan> Not at this stage at all!
07:40:41 <Gringoloco> So I must have miss understood !
07:40:53 <ChrisMorgan> Some time later on I'm contemplating a rewrite in C; it would be faster, smaller and have more readable code. But it would be quite a big break from the current system of launchers.
07:41:05 <ChrisMorgan> I think I had a ;-) there
07:42:44 <Gringoloco> Do you have any experience in C ?
07:45:22 <ChrisMorgan> A smidgeon.
07:45:32 <ChrisMorgan> Not enough for starting on such a project yet, though.
07:46:23 <taneth111> are we talking C or C++?
07:46:49 <ChrisMorgan> I was talking C. I don't think there'd really be any real use for the enhancements offered by C++.
07:47:08 <ChrisMorgan> Straight C is even leaner and faster than C++.
07:47:25 <taneth111> Yeah, but it's also messier and deters new people from joining PA.c
07:51:10 <ChrisMorgan> I don't think so at all.
07:51:23 <ChrisMorgan> (a) it won't affect users
07:51:32 <ChrisMorgan> (b) it won't affect many developers at all
07:51:40 <ChrisMorgan> (c) it's still going to be neater than NSIS
07:51:59 <ChrisMorgan> (d) developers writing custom segments will still be less likely to need to learn a new language
07:53:49 <Gringoloco> In my drive to learn more, I have spend my time in making a basic launcher in C
07:54:28 <Gringoloco> Or in C++ if you like, I'm not even totally sure of the difference ?
07:55:55 <Gringoloco> Just a small start though ! Maybe I send it to the forum, whenever it's more complete !
07:56:21 <ChrisMorgan> What I've been considering for the future is pretty much a straight port of PAL to C. The structure would work fairly well in C.
07:56:36 <ChrisMorgan> It's really pretty much all quite straightforward.
07:58:43 <Gringoloco> Staight forward ? I couldn't even find an instruction for copying a complete folder ?
07:58:51 <ChrisMorgan> I'm *definitely* not up to that stage, anyway. Getting PAL stable in NSIS is the first thing.
07:58:54 <taneth111> The reason I got into PA.c was because I wanted to know how the launchers worked, which was easy enough because NSIS is pretty simple. But if the launcher was written in something like C I probably wouldn't have gotten involved with computers at all. I would at least do it in C++, with lots of comments.
07:59:18 <ChrisMorgan> taneth111: what advantages would there be in using C++ instead of C?
07:59:59 <taneth111> easier to read, easier to write, easier to understand. And the speed margin between C and C++ isn't that big, so what's the advantage of using C?
08:00:01 <ChrisMorgan> What's more using C or C++ could be a start towards cross-platform functionality.
08:00:14 <Gringoloco> Not to depend on JimPark keeping Unicode NSIS up to date, maybe ?
08:01:00 <ChrisMorgan> taneth111: C++ is almost a superset of C (not quite, but almost). Easier to read/write/understand can thus only depend on classes, I presume; there would not really be any call for classes in PAL.

21:25:30 <OliverK> it might be a wee bit different for you, but that's the gist of it
21:25:39 <pa_1725> it's a regular setup of the firefox portable release, and a regular portable setup of foxit. Then, after getting the error msg, i copied both dll and ocx from foxit plugins folder to firefox profile plugins folder, following an advice in a foxit forum
21:25:55 <OliverK> huh
21:26:12 <pa_1725> it's not an extension, but a plugin... a regular plugin using firefox (netscape plugin API)

21:28:35 <pa_1725> do you think it's a ffox portable issue to be able to use foxit plugin, or it's a foxit issue?
