00:39:07 <ChrisMorgan> Arg... it's being very troublesome setting up for gringoloco on this new host, it's not designed to deal with this sort of use case. :-(
00:40:51 <ZachThibeau> huh?
00:44:22 <ChrisMorgan> ZachThibeau: handling extra users with WebFaction is just done by creating new users on the system; then they can go in to their home directory with SFTP. It's not the cPanel way of creating a purely-FTP account limited to a subdirectory somewhere. It's a much better way of doing it, but a little less useful for this situation.

01:26:19 <ChrisMorgan> Erk, cPanel! WebFaction's panel is soooo much nicer ;-)
01:26:44 <ChrisMorgan> Wonder how fast DNS propagation will be for chrismorgan.info. I switched it a few minutes ago...
01:27:48 <ChrisMorgan> bpbible.com was the slowest I've seen before; over 12 hours before it got to me reliably (though www.bpbible.com and bpbible.com at different times switched back and forth at times - individually - in a most strange way).

03:42:10 <ChrisMorgan> Gringoloco: you haven't put any new files up to my website in the last week or so, have you?
03:43:33 <Gringoloco> ChrisMorgan: No, I read about it in the logs...
03:43:38 <ChrisMorgan> Good, thanks.
03:43:45 <ChrisMorgan> DNS propagation is now happening.
03:44:22 <ChrisMorgan> So by tomorrow you should be able to log in. I'm sending you the details now.
03:44:32 <Gringoloco> Actually I have been using skydrive, the last few days
03:45:12 <ChrisMorgan> I noticed that
03:45:26 <ChrisMorgan> The URLs are horrible compared to a direct system :P
03:45:51 <Gringoloco> Yes, but the rest is better then MediaFire
03:46:29 <ChrisMorgan> I would expect it to be. It still requires you to go via a download page though, doesn't it?
03:46:45 <Gringoloco> No direct.
03:47:35 <Gringoloco> Ahh, it broke my lijk
03:47:38 <Gringoloco> link
03:48:09 <Gringoloco> Thats not very direct...
03:48:50 <ChrisMorgan> Understandable. They want people to see the ads and whatnot.
03:49:15 <ChrisMorgan> What client were you using before for uploading to my site? FileZilla?
03:50:34 <ChrisMorgan> With WebFaction I get full SFTP support so you'll need to use an SFTP-compatible client. FileZilla will work, WinSCP will also now work.
03:50:34 <Gringoloco> FileZilla, it works great
03:51:36 <ChrisMorgan> Good.
03:51:48 <Gringoloco> ChrisMorgan: Do you agree with : ExecWait regedit.exe
03:51:55 <ChrisMorgan> Definitely.
03:52:09 <ChrisMorgan> For myself I think I'll just mount it with sshfs.
03:52:28 <Gringoloco> sshfs ?
03:53:17 <ChrisMorgan> It's a *nix thing.
03:53:43 <ChrisMorgan> Looks like I should just be able to mount the SFTP directory like that. Which is an idea I like.
03:54:18 <Gringoloco> ChrisMorgan: Why are you doing that errorflag handling in RegistryKeys.nsh at restoring the key
03:54:57 *** Scriptdaemon (~KennyW@139.182.11.192) has joined #portableapps
03:55:18 <Scriptdaemon> Anyone know anything about macros/scripts/etc. in OpenOffice.org and/or Excel?
03:55:35 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: Google does ;-)
03:55:57 <Scriptdaemon> Google isn't much of a help with what I want to do.
03:56:25 <ChrisMorgan> Gringoloco: you mean lines 42-44?
03:56:33 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: what /do/ you want to do?
03:56:47 <Gringoloco> Just adding formulas ?
03:57:27 <Scriptdaemon> I have a timesheet in a spreadsheet, and I want to generate a calendar based on a given month/year. I *have* the code in C++ (from stuff I've done a long time ago), but I don't know what would be the best option.
03:57:31 <ChrisMorgan> Gringoloco: it's there so that when the key couldn't be put into the registry it doesn't throw away its settings to get probably nothing from the registry.
03:57:51 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: generate a calendar? I wrote an algorithm for that in FIT1029 assignment 2...
03:57:58 <ChrisMorgan> Easy way: use Inkscape ;-)
03:58:12 <ChrisMorgan> Extensions -> Render -> Calendar or something like that
03:58:21 <Gringoloco> ChrisMorgan: lines 16 & 23 & 26 , in preprimary I am talking !
03:58:37 <Scriptdaemon> In a spreadsheet? It's also based very specifically on the layout of cells.
03:59:13 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/150774
03:59:17 <Gringoloco> sorry 18
03:59:18 <ChrisMorgan> Gringoloco: lines 18/23/26 I presume you mean
04:00:15 <Scriptdaemon> Google dislikes me.
04:00:46 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: I searched for "excel macro draw calendar"
04:00:49 <Scriptdaemon> I think I can fuss around with this code a bit and get it to generate the calendar in the order I want.
04:01:03 <ChrisMorgan> 18: SetErrors: say that import has not worked yet. Then try it and on line 23 if it has succeeded, clear errors as it has worked. Then line 26, if error - if it has failed to import - then mark it as such
04:01:24 <Gringoloco> nsExec::Exec reg.exe doesn't affect the error flag, though
04:01:33 <ChrisMorgan> Pop $R9
04:01:46 <ChrisMorgan> Then if $R9 = 0, it worked.
04:01:56 <Scriptdaemon> Does OO.o allow VB?
04:01:58 <ChrisMorgan> nsExec::Exec pushes the return code to the stack
04:02:14 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: it uses some form of Basic, I haven't ever gone into it in detail
04:02:14 <rmccue> Scriptdaemon: Doubt it.
04:02:30 <Scriptdaemon> I'll have to do this on Monday then.
04:02:33 <Scriptdaemon> Implement*
04:02:34 <ChrisMorgan> I've got a feeling I heard something about it being compatible but that may not be accurate.
04:02:40 <Gringoloco> So if you have result in $R9 anyway, why to play with the error flag yourself, I do not get it ?
04:03:24 <ChrisMorgan> Gringoloco: not sure. That's just the way I did it.
04:03:32 <ChrisMorgan> And in my opinion it's a tad clearer.
04:04:16 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: if you need to do it in OO.o, change the search to "calc macro draw calendar"
04:05:42 <ChrisMorgan> Or there's a document on how to convert them... http://www.programminglearn.com/291/porting-excelvba-to-calcstarbasic
04:05:48 <ChrisMorgan> 63 pages of it :P
04:05:56 <Scriptdaemon> ChrisMorgan, oh, I had a question for you. Suppose %USERPROFILE% is saved in a settings file. How do I change that on next run? I know how to change the drive, but what about the rest of the directory that's computer-specific.
04:06:15 <ChrisMorgan> 2.1
04:06:26 <Scriptdaemon> :)
04:06:48 <Gringoloco> ChrisMorgan: I just tested again, nsexec undoes the error flag being set
04:07:00 <Gringoloco> No wonder It doesn't work on Wine
04:07:11 <ChrisMorgan> Hmm. That might explain something.
04:10:16 <ChrisMorgan> Can I also replace Registry::RestoreKey with an ExecWait? It would be this, wouldn't it: ExecWait '"$WINDIR\system32\regedit.exe" /s "$DataDirectory\settings\$0.reg"' $R9
04:11:44 <Scriptdaemon> Still trying to fix stuff for XP SP2?
04:12:13 <Gringoloco> According to MSDN CreateProcess(), it will search for the executable it in the PATH env.var.!
04:12:37 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: no, just general registry import cleanup to make sure it'll work everywhere.
04:12:37 <Gringoloco> So no need for the whole path !
04:13:14 <Gringoloco> If you do not trust it, you can use searchpath !
04:13:24 <ChrisMorgan> I knew about that. Getting rid of it with regedit.exe is OK, but with reg.exe I'm a little bit leery of it as it's plausible that something else could have it.
04:14:11 <ChrisMorgan> And it'll always be in $WINDIR\system32 anyway. But I'm just trying to remember something about executing things in sys32 on x64...
04:14:26 <Gringoloco> ah, ok, if there would be another file with the same name, you mean
04:16:01 <ChrisMorgan> Yeah.
04:16:05 <Scriptdaemon> ChrisMorgan, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64#Registry_and_file_system
04:16:17 <ChrisMorgan> Scriptdaemon: yes, I was just reading back on it.
04:16:29 <ChrisMorgan> I think executing regedit as just regedit without a path will be OK.
04:16:46 <Gringoloco> ChrisMorgan: What about using ExecDos plug-in for reg.exe, instead of nsexec ?
04:16:49 <ChrisMorgan> But I'll leave reg with the full path. I don't think it will harm.
04:18:25 <Gringoloco> Yes do leave the .reg file with the full path.
04:18:32 <ChrisMorgan> No, the reg.exe path
04:19:54 <ChrisMorgan> I think the use of nsExec there is a left-over from when nsExec was used for everything.
04:20:31 <ChrisMorgan> That's the only spot where it is still used.

04:23:30 <ChrisMorgan> Isn't that SearchPath stuff is unnecessary?
04:24:24 <Gringoloco> I think so, just wasn't intirely sure, and I was happy finding a new command ;-)
04:24:37 <Gringoloco> ExecDos::exec `"$WINDIR\system32\reg.exe" import "$DataDirectory\settings\$0.reg"` "" ""
04:25:01 <Gringoloco> I have been testing with the above line, no issues
04:25:08 <ChrisMorgan> But why not just ExecWait?
04:25:41 <Gringoloco> for reg.exe, it's not silent that way
04:25:59 <ChrisMorgan> Oh sorry, I didn't notice that was reg rather than regedit :-/
04:26:01 <Gringoloco> Poping up a command prompt window, a bit ugly
04:26:06 <ChrisMorgan> Yep
04:26:55 <ChrisMorgan> I use SearchPath once in PAL, for finding Java.
04:28:39 <Gringoloco> It was also, cause the C script was using SearchPath ( unnecessary)
04:29:23 <ChrisMorgan> I've pushed two changes to use $R9 and ExecDos instead of the error flag and nsExec.
04:29:25 <Gringoloco> I just wasn't a 100% sure about leaving it out, and it can't hurt
04:29:52 <ChrisMorgan> It will hurt performance slightly.
04:30:33 <ChrisMorgan> Think of it this way: when you execute a command in Command Prompt it just does exactly the same thing as Exec, and the same with Win+R.
04:30:56 <Gringoloco> CreateProcess()
04:32:21 <ChrisMorgan> Yep.
04:32:27 <ChrisMorgan> And it doesn't need a full path.

11:45:28 <Gringoloco_> Why is that?
11:46:34 <taneth111> Because Telstra owns the market, and all of the actual backhaul, so they can charge whatever they want for whatever they feel like, which happens to be lots for bad speed

Can anyone advise this budding dev ;)

12:28:57 <Gringoloco_> Would there be a command to do a 'FindFirst' & 'FindNext' file
12:30:32 <Horusofoz> Not sure. The if exist *.* should cover any files being present on the drive however I am think to check if there are any partitions present
12:31:39 <Gringoloco_> ok, but findfirst/next usually finds . / .. as well, I'm not sure you get the dots in the root aswell, though
12:32:23 <Gringoloco_> Probably not..
12:32:58 <Horusofoz> I'm not familiar with the command so will start googling
12:33:23 <Gringoloco_> And what about writing a temporary dummy file and then check if exists
12:35:42 <Horusofoz> I'm assuming that means if no partition exists then the dummy file won't be written demonstrating no partition exists when dummy file is not found?

20:46:55 <qwertymodo> I've seen them both used, but the one with TextReplace uses the TextReplace dll, so I'm wondering if there are any advantages to using it or I'll switch to not using the dll
20:47:16 <JohnTHaller> WithTextReplace is much faster
20:47:42 <JohnTHaller> Since it is using a compiled C DLL. ReplaceInFile is just straight NSIS, so slower.
20:48:12 <JohnTHaller> For small files, you won't really notice it, though. And I think we're switching at some point to something else due to the Unicode switch, but can't recall offhand.
20:48:51 * JohnTHaller is happy as he just fixed this issue for Rev 2 of OO.o Portable: http://portableapps.com/node/22809
20:49:39 <qwertymodo> well, one of the text files I'm using it on is 250kb, so I suppose the speed difference is probably noticeable
20:50:03 <qwertymodo> and the dll's only 5k, so it isn't a big deal I suppose
20:50:23 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, in that case you want the DLL one. The whole reason I wrote that wrapper was to make it faster but exactly code-compatible with the existing ReplaceInFile include. You just change the include and it works exactly the same with no other code changes.

21:12:08 <markomlm> JohnTHaller:Good job ;-) That's what I suggested some days ago :-)
21:13:03 <JohnTHaller> In terms of the classpath fix, the launcher still works as usual and deletes and recreates that xml file, but it reads in any existing classpath (if there is one) before doing so, changes the drive letters in said path and then writes it out with the new file. Which solves the problem without creating any new ones.

21:26:59 <markomlm> But we have to change the splash too for the next release 3.2.1 because of oracles 'take over' of sun.
21:27:21 <markomlm> I'll send it to You soon
21:29:08 <JohnTHaller> Ah, yeah. I figured that would happen
21:31:20 <markomlm> You've got mail
21:33:13 <JohnTHaller> Kinda barren. But a decent start.
21:33:18 <markomlm> JohnTHaller: Did You create a complete new built process for the packages?

21:34:26 <JohnTHaller> Nope. Takes WAY too long. Just moved the files around in the existing one.
21:34:56 <JohnTHaller> And stuff like passing things into AppCompactor and Installer doesn't work in the ones you sent me and I didn't have time to update from old to new.
21:35:48 <markomlm> Ok. but I mean You built process for the suite :-)
21:38:44 <markomlm> Did You use me last version with the fixes for the path issues I have sent to You for the ne OOoP launcher?
21:38:55 <markomlm> s/me/my
21:39:22 <JohnTHaller> The last thing you sent me only had the oobuilt.bat
21:40:21 <markomlm> right? There was another mail with the links to the last changes .. one moment pls
21:42:30 <markomlm> You've got mail a copy of the one on April 5th
21:43:51 <markomlm> Full support for all path entries.
21:44:55 <markomlm> But we can merge the changes for 3.2.1
21:44:56 <JohnTHaller> Argh. I hadn't seen that. I got it now.
21:45:09 <JohnTHaller> you fully tested it? no bugs or regressions?
21:46:17 <markomlm> I've tested it and one of the posters in the issue too.
21:47:10 <markomlm> But I think we should merge it with Your changes and test it again. But for 3.2.1
21:47:20 <JohnTHaller> When is 3.2.1
21:47:34 <JohnTHaller> How big are your changes?
21:50:36 <markomlm> JohnTHaller: ~30 lines of code, some more variables.
21:50:50 <JohnTHaller> How confident are you in it being bug-free
21:54:37 <markomlm> JohnTHaller:Very confident. I've got to bug messages from the other tester. He have tested it sice April.
21:55:00 <JohnTHaller> Ah ok. I'll check it over and include it in Rev 2, then. Any idea on the ETA of 3.2.1?

22:28:19 <JohnTHaller> yeah, i remember the feeling
22:29:00 <Simeon> so I dont really mind you taking a little longer to release the new beta - I can wait a couple days :)
22:30:28 <Simeon> and it looks like I have to learn how the logiclib plugin works for a fix for LBreakout2.

22:35:04 <Simeon> yes. I missed an option in the game: it can make screenshots but saves them inside the App folder.

22:36:37 <Simeon> but if I just copy them over I might overwrite things as it always starts with Screenshot1 if there is noone there. Thats why I thought about having an if string to find the name of the current one and then rename the ones in App to mach it. Dunno if thats a doable idea though as I never tried it.
22:38:40 <JohnTHaller> I'd say move them back n forth would be easiest. Since it's a rename, it takes almost no time so the files aren't really rewritten.
22:39:58 <Simeon> right. as PAL doesnt support wildcarts, I need custom code to do so.
