01:51:05 <pa_4613> your portables are great
01:51:11 <ChrisMorgan> They're doing just the same as they normally do, plus a bit more in setting up the portability.

04:12:28 <OliverK> yup, go ahead and save it

20:48:17 <pa_5439> JohnTHaller: So hows the release going?
20:48:36 <JohnTHaller> Slowly but surely. Public results will be visible soon.
20:49:29 <pa_5439> hopefully :P you end up delaying it alot, guess you have your reasons. you want 2.0 to be as perfect as possible :P
20:50:04 <JohnTHaller> only part of it is me. part of it is work on the pa.c launcher (since that's a part of it). part of it is working with vendors and publishers behind the scenes
20:51:04 <pa_5439> so it's everything togther
20:51:34 *** gluxon has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
20:51:51 <pa_5439> hopefully a proper and active release team will also surface so stuff will start moving out of the beta forums :P
20:52:04 <JohnTHaller> yeah, because all of it has to happen kinda together. 2.0 format/installer first, app updates, throwing 1.6.1 out there for peeps, 2.0 launcher, then 2.0 platform (with updater. themes. file assoc, etc) and the 2.0 website
20:52:09 *** gluxon (~gluxon@c-71-234-105-104.hsd1.ct.comcast.net) has joined #portableapps
20:52:48 <pa_5439> Youre gonna kill the servers if you do everything at once XD
20:55:22 <pa_5439> Well good luck hopefully you will hit the "THIS WEEK!" you posted on the sites header (Without any date to know which week it was posted in lol)
20:56:10 <Gizmokid2005> pa_5439: http://twitter.com/PortableApps/status/14660927800 ;)
20:56:34 <pa_5439> hehe :P
20:59:17 <JohnTHaller> yeah, this week. I'm working on the last item in the pa.c installer now.
21:00:12 <JohnTHaller> already got it unicode, better updates to the menu, additional languages, few bugs fixed, better external visibility of the appid, working with IE when run from Temp in online, handling proxies of online installers, etc. Just finishing up the full-silent mode for use with the updater.
21:01:03 <pa_5439> :)
21:02:55 <pa_5439> I wonder if you managed to get file associations working for stuff like default browser (when you click on a link inside an app)
21:03:26 <JohnTHaller> I did indeed. It's gonna be in beta 6, not beta 5, though
21:04:00 <pa_5439> Neat :)
21:04:19 <JohnTHaller> beta 5 gets the updater and theme manager, as well as some smaller stuff like portable fonts and some app caching
21:05:40 <pa_5439> theme manager, managing installed custom themes and/or a catalog of new themes?
21:05:46 <JohnTHaller> both
21:06:17 <JohnTHaller> It comes with 2 themes with 15 colors each. As well as the ability to customize the color. And then we're working on probably 1 more bonus theme to include and probably a dozen or so downloadable to start
21:06:40 <pa_5439> Man, you put so much work into this :)
21:07:43 <gluxon> Please tell me you've worked on the most requested feature *whisper*categories*whisper* :P
21:09:26 <JohnTHaller> Yes. Categories are in Beta 6 with file associations. Categories the interface is done but the backend logic isn't quite there. File associations the logic is done, but the UI isn.t
21:14:19 <pa_5439> You know, its kinda sad that Eclipse doesn't seem to have a proper open source GUI designer
21:15:22 <sar3th> do you need it for java development?
21:15:51 <pa_5439> Mostly just for some small stuff for fun but yes for Java
21:16:03 <sar3th> give NetBeans a shot
21:16:41 <sar3th> the gui designer is excellent, same for the rest of the IDE :)
21:16:47 <pa_5439> Tried it once, it was nice but I had two issues
21:16:49 <sar3th> http://www.netbeans.org
21:16:53 <sar3th> which ones?
21:17:38 <pa_5439> The GUI Designer has a dependency on an extra file (.form), for my small stuff its ok though
21:17:51 <pa_5439> and an issue I have with almost all Java apps with small fonts
21:18:21 <pa_5439> The text editor default font on my PC's are super small -.-"
21:20:05 <sar3th> you can increase that size
21:20:27 <pa_5439> I'll check the settings then :P
21:21:13 <sar3th> look for fonts and colors->Font
21:21:25 <sar3th> default is "Inherited" but you can change that :)
21:22:05 <pa_5439> Lets try the same font used in Eclipse :P
21:22:12 <pa_5439> Well seems to work

23:00:52 <pa_3385> Chris, r u sure?
23:00:56 <pa_3385> I don't experience that
23:01:12 <ChrisMorgan> It's part of the design of Firefox.
23:01:56 <pa_3385> I mean I have 2 different folders
23:02:04 <pa_3385> files are not being overwritten
23:02:33 <ChrisMorgan> Still, if you launch 3.6 first, when you run 3.7 it'll just open another copy of 3.6.
23:02:45 <pa_3385> all the strange I have is that process firefoxportable.exe is not running anymore, though I think it should
23:03:01 <pa_3385> wait
23:03:06 <pa_3385> again pls
23:03:26 <pa_3385> 1. launch 3.7 2. launch 3.6 3. launch 3.6 - u mean?
23:04:12 <pa_3385> I had 3.7 running all that time and I actually managed to run 3.6 then
23:04:16 <pa_3385> and 3.7 is still alive
23:04:22 <ChrisMorgan> When you set AllowMultipleInstances=true FirefoxPortable.exe doesn't wait. That's how it works.
23:04:32 <pa_3385> wait for what?
23:04:39 <ChrisMorgan> firefox.exe
23:04:41 <ChrisMorgan> It just closes.
23:04:51 <pa_3385> is it bad?
23:05:12 <pa_3385> you mean I will have loss of data when I will close every firefox?
23:05:16 <ChrisMorgan> AllowMultipleInstances is a legacy feature of Firefox Portable. It's not supported and you're recommended not to use it. It will be removed in a fairly soon release.
23:05:22 <FireFox> oh my god.
23:05:36 <pa_3385> why it will be removed?
23:05:38 <ChrisMorgan> You shouldn't lose any data, but it won't clean up the Crash Reports folder on the local computer.
23:05:58 <pa_3385> do I care about crash reports?
23:06:04 <ChrisMorgan> Probably not.
23:06:16 <pa_3385> if everything else works fine - I don't care about crash reports, seriously
23:06:26 <pa_3385> I don't even see any crashes
23:06:46 <pa_3385> btw, thx for info, you helped
23:07:03 <ChrisMorgan> Because there's no real use for it. All it does is make it so that if firefox.exe is running when you run FirefoxPortable.exe, it'll run its own firefox.exe, which will hand it over to the already-running firefox.exe, rather than saying "already running, close the local version first".

23:09:02 <pa_3385> will removal of that feature somehow affect me?
23:09:10 <ChrisMorgan> It's a limitation of Firefox itself that you cannot run more than one version at a time.
23:09:48 <pa_3385> yes, and portableapps soft allows us to brake this limitation

23:13:35 <dboki89> pa_3385: yes, it's very hard to make M$ Office Portable, as well as it would be in violation of it's EULA (it would be ILLEGAL)
23:13:43 <pa_2585> I downloaded portable apps as a recommendation from my friend and he showed me how everytime that he takes his flashdrive somewhere and opens portableapps, he can make his desktop as whatever picture it is

23:16:08 <pa_3385> they are really different
23:16:22 <pa_3385> and they are using different profiles, just as I supposed it to be
23:16:33 <ChrisMorgan> That would be very strange. Maybe then Mozilla has changed the age-old behaviour of it.
23:16:51 <dboki89> pa_3385: you've set "MultipleInstances=true"?
23:17:00 <pa_3385> yes
23:17:02 <ChrisMorgan> Or come to think of it, it'll be giving a different app ID, and so they won't clash. 3.6 will be called Firefox and 3.7 will be Minefield or whatever it is.
23:17:27 <pa_3385> man, you want a screenshot or what?
23:17:31 <pa_3385> I'm not liying
23:17:34 <pa_3385> just try it
23:17:47 <pa_3385> all you need is to move firefoxportable.ini from firefoxportable/app/source/ to fireffoxportable/
23:17:51 <ChrisMorgan> Two stable versions, such as 3.5 and 3.6, would clash. But when you've got a version with a different name, like 3.7 which is Minefield while in alpha, they will work together.

23:43:30 <Bensawsome> Drugoy im pretty sure allow multiple instances is only applicable if you run multiple PROFILES. Not multiple versions
23:43:32 <ChrisMorgan> Drugoy: It's behaviour unsupported by Mozilla themselves. It's merely incidental that it works with an alpha build.
