02:22:44 <ZachThibeau> whats up
02:33:37 <JohnTHaller> back. hi ZachThibeau
02:35:19 <ZachThibeau> I'm working on PChat 2.0 :D same core but different front end, going to be with wxwidgets as the new interface since the gtk library isn't looking to great for the windows version
02:40:27 <ZachThibeau> still going to maintain the gtk version for a while though until 2.0 get's finalized

02:44:06 <ZachThibeau> howdy ChrisMorgan
02:44:32 <JohnTHaller> ZachThibeau: cool. New interface will be nice. ANd a nice distinction from X-Chat, which is getting outdated UI-look wise
02:44:44 <ChrisMorgan> Hey ZachThibeau
02:46:46 <ZachThibeau> ChrisMorgan: I was telling John that I'm redesigning PChat in c++/wxwidgets already have a good start so far network list actually loads the list of networks in serverlist.c/h in the core of PChat/XChat
02:47:05 <ChrisMorgan> Yep, when I saw John's line I looked in the logs :D
02:47:21 <ZachThibeau> awesome
02:47:34 <ChrisMorgan> So PChat is becoming much more a branch of XChat than an alternative build.
02:48:18 <ZachThibeau> the core etc will still be the same as xchat's but the frontend I dub fe-wxwidgets will hopefully be better on the eyes and yes so it seems
02:50:05 <ZachThibeau> planned it out with a friend of mine who decided to join in the development of the new interface
02:53:14 <JohnTHaller> Just swapped in Twitter button in place of TweetMeme
02:57:13 <ChrisMorgan> Feels better in my opinion, without actually using it to tweet (as I have no twitter account)
02:57:45 <JohnTHaller> They just released it. And TweeteMeme is promoting it over their own now. Some sort of deal they struck.

03:05:26 <ChrisMorgan> Nor I.
03:05:34 <ChrisMorgan> Seems to be.
03:05:44 <JohnTHaller> Odd. It's just a page.
03:06:17 <ChrisMorgan> Actually, I can't edit http://portableapps.com/about/contact either

03:07:01 <JohnTHaller> But you can edit About right?
03:07:14 <ChrisMorgan> Yes.
03:07:31 <JohnTHaller> I think I know the culprit... hang on a sec.
03:08:04 <ZachThibeau> was it colonel custurd in the study with a revolver?
03:08:10 <ZachThibeau> sorry couldn't resist
03:08:47 <ChrisMorgan> Never heard of colonel custurd.
03:08:47 <JohnTHaller> Ok, you should be good now
03:09:02 <LinkSlayer64> it's colonel mustard XP
03:09:03 <JohnTHaller> It's a reference to the Clue boardgame. Popular in the states.
03:09:11 <JohnTHaller> ChrisMorgan: Try now.
03:09:20 <ChrisMorgan> Tick :-)
03:09:51 <JohnTHaller> ModPlus didn't have access to the PHP input type that is used on the homepage (showing whether you are logged in) and contact page (showing the current user count)
03:09:53 <ChrisMorgan> As LinkSlayer64 realised, I know about Colonel Mustard, but no colonel custurd. ;-)
03:10:05 <ChrisMorgan> Ah, I see.
03:10:05 <ZachThibeau> lol my bad haven't played the game in a while
03:10:09 <LinkSlayer64> lol and I thought he was in the parlor with the candlestick? (Candlestick has always been my fav for no reason)
03:10:30 <ChrisMorgan> Parlor? They don't have such a room in the game in Australia at least...
03:11:18 <LinkSlayer64> like a living room lol, and I dunno, been years for me too, in fact, we need a new one, old ones gone
03:13:19 <ChrisMorgan> Input format permissions have caught me before with Drupal...

03:44:52 <ChrisMorgan> Hmm... in working on gVim Portable 7.3, with the OLE build I'm coming up with something I didn't understand at the time - but now do. "Cannot load registered type library" actually means something to me now.
03:47:17 <JohnTHaller> what does it mean
03:48:07 <ChrisMorgan> It means its OLE support works with type libraries. TypeLib support is something Gringoloco and I have been working on in PAL.
03:48:33 <ChrisMorgan> An OLE-free build is still better for the portable version, as the OLE features can't be used, but it's nice to understand it.
03:49:29 <Gizmokid2005> JohnTHaller: I reckon DamnVid Portable should be good to go almost anytime. 83 dls of the DT and 69 (haha) of the PR.
03:50:08 <JohnTHaller> heh, ok
03:52:09 <Gizmokid2005> the only "issue" that was brought up was just a misunderstanding of how the app works (and after talking to the dev, really how the app works in that regard isn't the most intuitive)

03:55:02 <ChrisMorgan> I wonder... should I switch gVim Portable 7.3 over to PAL?
03:55:42 <JohnTHaller> Can PAL handle all of it?
03:55:59 <JohnTHaller> BTW - not sure if you saw this: http://download.techworld.com/3214075/portableappscom-launcher-20/?intcmp=ros-md-dl-tp

03:57:09 *** JohnTHaller has quit (Disconnected by services)
03:57:11 <ChrisMorgan> Certainly. It actually became fairly simple, once I knew what to do with it. Earlier attempts at gVim Portable had been overcomplicated. All the launcher is now is environment variables (HOME, VIM, VIMRUNTIME, TMP, TEMP), drive letter updating in _viminfo, and a -n command line argument to not create swap files.
03:57:13 *** JohnTHaller1 is now known as JohnTHaller
03:57:26 <Gizmokid2005> haha wow JohnTHaller, they didn't hold back in tearing apart the documentation
03:57:43 <ChrisMorgan> "If you can figure out the dreadful documentation" :D
03:57:58 <Gizmokid2005> don't forget "And then it'll be up to you to figure out how to tell the Launcher what it must do, something of a challenge right now as the documentation available is truly atrocious." ChrisMorgan
03:57:59 <JohnTHaller> Yeah. Honestly, I kinda agree. It's written from our perspective. But it's really hard to follow for someone learning it.
03:58:16 <Gizmokid2005> and there is the typical paradox of a developer writing documentation
03:58:47 <Gizmokid2005> it's one of 2 things. 1) Overly complicated as we take things for granted, or 2) it's way overly "stupified" to the point it's hard to read.
03:58:51 <JohnTHaller> I learned my first few apps with PAL looking at examples. And still made mistakes, because I couldn't follow the documentation.
03:58:53 <ChrisMorgan> I quite disagree with "truly atrocious". It is fairly poor for the beginner, but that's more because it's straight reference rather than "how to start" for 2.0. 2.1's is getting better.
03:59:57 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, we basically have a 'reference' section. But no 'how to'
04:00:00 <ChrisMorgan> As I mentioned to you a bit earlier, the documentation was to be the main focus of 2.1.
04:00:25 <JohnTHaller> Now that I know how to use it, the documentation is just fine for me. But that initial learning curve is frustrating.
04:00:25 <ChrisMorgan> But I think you'll agree that the launcher configuration is really quite elegant - once you've worked out how to use it all.
04:00:28 <JohnTHaller> Yes, I know :)
04:00:34 <JohnTHaller> And I agree with that
04:00:45 <ChrisMorgan> Yep, and that does it no good in a quick review such as such a site is likely to do.
04:00:47 <JohnTHaller> But presenting it all in a straight-through reference is kinda rough on new users.
04:01:20 <JohnTHaller> I'm not knocking your docs, Chris :)
04:02:05 <Gizmokid2005> I haven't looked at them so I can't say one way or the other
04:02:40 <Gizmokid2005> the only thing I do know for sure...is that it's frustrating being a geek sometimes...you know, it's time for bed....and you get distracted by the dumbest of things...
04:02:55 <Gizmokid2005> ie - tinkering with the css for the mobile version of your blog....*eyeroll*
04:03:06 <JohnTHaller> Oh, true
04:03:27 <JohnTHaller> I'm way overdue on doing a walkthrough on installing the platform
04:04:31 <ChrisMorgan> I've been intending to do that too. We could have two versions - one normal and one with an American accent ;-0
04:05:01 <JohnTHaller> In the real world, we have an accent. Online, everyone else does, since we made this internet thing :)
04:05:58 <ChrisMorgan> Hmm... I looked into language switching for Vim 7.2, but didn't find anything I could do or something like that. Need to recheck it with 7.3.
04:06:06 <Gizmokid2005> I'm not even going to attempt the css tonight...maybe if I can't sleep...but anyways, take it easy ChrisMorgan, JohnTHaller. I'm off
