05:22:42 <OliverK> JohnTHaller!
05:22:51 <OliverK> My insomnia is rewarded!
05:23:09 <OliverK> wow, though I'm awful slow on the uptake
05:24:35 <JohnTHaller> Heh
05:25:02 <JohnTHaller> I've ben online for a while. Was finishing some VC stuff and packaging up FF, TB, etc updates. My least favorite at 16 packages each.
05:25:39 <OliverK> ouch
05:25:45 <OliverK> I got a reply from enricho :)
05:25:56 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, I saw the cc of it. cool!
05:26:18 <OliverK> so, who's making splash, where do I need to head? I hope to be productive with my week
05:26:46 <JohnTHaller> Do you still wanna do a standard PA.c splash for it?
05:27:04 <OliverK> I suppose, its really up to you on that one I guess
05:27:16 <OliverK> my graphic design sucks
05:27:22 <JohnTHaller> heh
05:27:31 <JohnTHaller> mine isn't much better. our designer is really good, though.
05:27:38 <OliverK> indeed
05:27:57 <JohnTHaller> Have a high-res Geany icon handy? I'll make it for ya right now
05:28:05 <OliverK> svg fine?
05:28:12 <JohnTHaller> Sure. Inkscape at the ready
05:29:00 <OliverK> latest revision from trunk: http://geany.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/geany/trunk/icons/scalable/geany.svg?revision=5303
05:29:19 * OliverK hopes
05:29:40 <JohnTHaller> looks right to me. hang on a min
05:30:08 <OliverK> cool
05:32:25 <JohnTHaller> How's this? http://portableapps.com/temp/GeanyPortable.jpg
05:32:49 <OliverK> looks good
05:33:30 <JohnTHaller> Ok. Balancing it was a little trickier with the smoke coming up. But I think I have it about right. Put your eyes out of focus and it'll look about balanced. Lil trick I learned.
05:33:49 <OliverK> my eyes are constantly out of focus
05:33:55 <OliverK> thanks for the tip
05:34:12 <OliverK> wow, tricky
05:43:45 <ChrisMorgan> JohnTHaller: do you use Inkscape to turn the SVG into bitmap?
05:44:19 <OliverK> svg is win for intial graphic design
05:44:45 <JohnTHaller> Yup. I turn it into a PNG (higher res than I need) and then bring that into photoshop and size as needed
05:44:48 <ChrisMorgan> Initial? Use SVG all the way!
05:44:58 <JohnTHaller> I find that works bext for getting the best quality icon on the splash
05:45:07 <OliverK> meh
05:45:16 <OliverK> depends if you'll ever be scaling it or not
05:45:38 <ChrisMorgan> JohnTHaller: downsampling would explain it. You should put in some extra whitespace before scaling down - the top of the cloud is slightly clipped due to the way the interpolation works.
05:46:53 <JohnTHaller> Hmm, that's odd. It's an independent layer and photoshop is generally pretty good about not messing that up.
05:46:54 <ChrisMorgan> Inkscape 0.49 is due to be getting better PNG export so that it will get antialiasing and whatnot perfect so that the step of resizing would become unnecessary (and less accurate).
05:50:21 <ChrisMorgan> JohnTHaller: what do you think of this Metalogic Finance Explorer thread - should I merge the new thread back into the old or leave it (he has changed to a proper DT style in the new thread so it's perhaps separate)
05:52:39 <JohnTHaller> Keep seperate in that case
05:54:13 <ChrisMorgan> OK.
05:54:51 <ChrisMorgan> I'll just check it and report. When he released it first I found I had some spare time so I checked it. The whole process - including reporting the problems - took half an hour.
05:55:09 <JohnTHaller> Not too bad
05:56:11 <OliverK> thanks for the splash JohnTHaller
05:56:16 <JohnTHaller> Sure thing
05:56:29 <JohnTHaller> Lemme see if I can tweak that odd issue on it
05:56:41 <OliverK> sure
05:57:17 <ChrisMorgan> It's a very simple app, but I reckon short check times can apply elsewhere too. I was able to use my PAF checker to just run briefly over almost all of it. I hope to get some more time soon to work on it more and get it in a state ready for a test release.
05:58:53 <JohnTHaller> Ok, got it and better balanced, too. Also matched the Geany red to the diamonds on the lamp: http://portableapps.com/temp/GeanyPortable.jpg
05:58:58 <JohnTHaller> May have to shift-reload to see it
05:59:49 <OliverK> nice
06:00:02 <OliverK> little smaller, doesn't seem to override the pa flash as much
06:01:04 <JohnTHaller> yeah
06:09:22 <JohnTHaller> Nother day, nother new app: http://portableapps.com/news/2010-10-19-_paul_stretch_portable_2.0
06:12:22 <ChrisMorgan> JohnTHaller: wouldn't it make more sense to do apps that have been in testing first?
06:13:22 <JohnTHaller> This one was easy. I was kicking it around last night for fun, so I had the page done. I was actually gonna do XN today, but I ran out of time, so this was an easy way to stick to 1 new per day.
06:13:51 <auscompgeek> Hm? Geany Portable? I'd love to see that, since I've seen a screenshot of it, and it seems quite good. :)
06:14:20 <JohnTHaller> We just did the splash for it :-P OliverK will have it packaged and we'll have it out this week I'd wager.
06:14:54 <OliverK> if hell doesn't break loose again
06:15:08 <JohnTHaller> XN, Monster 2 and Private Browsing will be pushed out, too. I'll prob do 2 tomorrow to make up for the simple app today
06:15:12 <OliverK> managed to contain it tonight, installing open suse on my dear little netbook
06:15:16 <OliverK> cool
06:15:18 <ChrisMorgan> I reckon we're safe pushing Metalogic Finance Explorer quickly (or rather, waiting for him to release 4.3 final). It's another simple app.
06:15:21 <JohnTHaller> I wasn't expecting FF, TB and chrome to all need updates tonight :)
06:15:24 <JohnTHaller> :( i mean
06:15:43 <ChrisMorgan> I was looking at the front page a few days ago and 7/15 were browser releases...
06:15:46 <JohnTHaller> Cool. We should be pushing out Maxthon in the near future, too. They just submitted for testing.
06:15:58 <OliverK> BANG -:)
06:16:15 <ChrisMorgan> Now it's a tame 4/15.
06:16:29 <ChrisMorgan> I can do testing if you want me to.
06:16:32 <JohnTHaller> well, the google ones are a single news story
06:16:47 <ChrisMorgan> But still 4/15 of the lines
06:17:12 <JohnTHaller> I think I'm gonna have maxthon do some public testing. it's a complex app and they're using the portable app template or something instead of a custom launcher or PAL, so we'll need to test it more closely.
06:17:31 <JohnTHaller> 4/15 are NEW, too :D
06:17:44 <ChrisMorgan> And THAT's a more important figure.
06:17:52 <ChrisMorgan> Erk. Tell 'em to use PAL instead.
06:17:55 <JohnTHaller> Like my paul stretch icon?
06:18:04 <JohnTHaller> We may have to conrfigure it for em.
06:18:22 <ChrisMorgan> I was sorta thinkin' somethin' ... stretchy would do better.
06:18:26 <ChrisMorgan> :D
06:18:39 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, didn't have something handy :-P
06:18:49 <ChrisMorgan> Looks good.
06:19:03 <auscompgeek> Whoa, how many apps are we adding to the list of apps?
06:19:06 <JohnTHaller> I'm actually listening to one of my buddy's band's songs turned into a 30 minute ambient epic rihgjt now. it's fun
06:19:14 <OliverK> justin bieber? wah?
06:19:29 <OliverK> oh, that reminds me. There was something I think I wanted to dig up on echoes
06:19:34 <OliverK> can't remember
06:19:34 <JohnTHaller> I'm trying to do 1 new one a day going forward. It's not an official thing or announced or guaranteed. Just trying to.
06:19:41 <auscompgeek> Did someone just mention Justin Bieber? O_o
06:19:45 <ChrisMorgan> OliverK: listen to the thing on Lifehacker - the original sounds horrible but the stretched one sounds really quite nice.
06:20:04 <JohnTHaller> OliverK: Check out the lifehacker article. This app became popular because someone stretched a cheesy bieber song and it sounded awesome.
06:20:46 * ChrisMorgan loves being able to just start an XP VM and get a clean slate all ready for portable app testing. Fast, too.
06:20:58 <OliverK> wpw
06:21:01 <OliverK> wow*
06:21:04 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, I do the same. XP VM preloaded with regshot and a couple tools ready to go.
06:21:15 <auscompgeek> Interesting. :)
06:21:46 <JohnTHaller> My buddy's band is actually going to pick the best track from their debut album and stretch it into an epic and release it for free just for fun :)
06:21:49 <OliverK> huh
06:21:54 <OliverK> wow
06:22:04 <OliverK> interesting
06:22:10 <JohnTHaller> You listen to the bieber slowed down?
06:22:20 <OliverK> yeah, i am
06:22:31 <OliverK> whats sad is i'm intrued
06:22:55 <JohnTHaller> You can preview tracks without saving or waiting to process... so just load an MP3 into it and hit play to try it out :)
06:23:23 <OliverK> humm, I wonder what a true ambient would sound like
06:23:26 <ChrisMorgan> It's a pity the appearance of the UI is so poor.
06:23:29 <OliverK> to bad i'm in linux :p
06:24:46 <OliverK> celeron D = no vm either :(
06:25:09 <JohnTHaller> yeah, it's using an old version of the fltk libraries. Sudoku Portable uses em too
06:25:10 * ChrisMorgan runs "~/vc/portableapps/development-toolkit/validate.py ." :-)
06:26:29 <JohnTHaller> Ok, TB is building. I'm gonna get some sleep and release it first thing in the AM
06:27:01 <JohnTHaller> gnight all!
06:27:01 <ChrisMorgan> And did you know: with Wine 1.2, OLE drag and drop is implemented - so you can drag files from Linux into Windows applications!
06:27:07 <ChrisMorgan> G'nite
06:27:13 <JohnTHaller> ChrisMorgan: Ah nice, didn't know that
06:27:27 <ChrisMorgan> Means I can drag a file from Nautilus into IcoFX :-)
06:27:52 <JohnTHaller> Wine has really come a long way. I've been meaning to reconnect with those guys to do some stuff together.
06:27:56 <JohnTHaller> Alright... sleep.
06:28:01 *** JohnTHaller has parted #portableapps (None)
06:29:38 <ChrisMorgan> At one point early this year I discussed making a portable Wine with them. Seems it would require a fairly radical redesign of some portions of Wine to get it to run from FAT32 or NTFS.
06:30:50 <OliverK> seems silly to code something that way
06:31:09 <auscompgeek> :O
06:32:24 <ChrisMorgan> There are just fundamental differences between the way the filesystems work in some things - and it was the professional opinion of several of those in #winehq at the time that it just couldn't really be done. FAT32 and NTFS just suck too much.

08:59:14 <pa_5350> hello all. just to inform: my corporate McAfee virus has found two trojans in the italian version of portable OOo.
09:00:17 <pa_5350> seems working but a couple of DLL has been deleted while running the portable archive.
09:01:57 <pa_5350> gdiplus.dll and msvcr80.dll
09:03:56 <auscompgeek> msvcr80.dll is from Microsoft, isn't it?
09:04:24 <auscompgeek> If McAfee deleted a DLL from Microsoft, that's a fail. Big time.
09:04:38 <pa_5350> :D but it gives the error when opening the portableapps.com . are these files inside OOo?
09:07:02 <auscompgeek> Hm, let me check.
09:07:19 <auscompgeek> also, gdiplus.dll is a Microsoft DLL...

16:59:13 <Hamscer> Hello
17:00:04 <Hamscer> Im having a problem with portable Chrome, i installed it and portable java in the correct path's but chrome doesnt recognize the ajva
17:00:20 <Hamscer> when i try to go to a website that sues java it askss me to down plugin
17:00:22 <Hamscer> any ideas
17:00:22 <Hamscer> ?
17:02:48 <dboki89> Hamscer: AFAIK, Google Chrome Portable doesn't yet support portable Java... or the other way around, which ever you like. | Disclaimer: I'm not a developer, just a user like yourself
17:03:44 <Hamscer> Aha, THanks for the info, so does Opera or Firefox ?
17:04:17 <ZachThibeau> most browsers will use the propriety java plugin which will look to the registry for java and since java portable doesn't write to the registry it won't work unless it's installed locally on the host machine
17:04:36 <ZachThibeau> so java portable + FirefoxPortable etc will not work together
17:04:58 <dboki89> what Zach said ^^
17:05:01 <ZachThibeau> it's a topic that's been discussed on the forums too if you want to check out further on why it won't work
17:05:17 <Hamscer> Well that a problem cuz ima t work and i dont ahve access priv's to regedit, any ideas how to solve this problem ? any portable or not portable browsers that come with the java plugina lready installed to save me the headache ?
17:06:04 <ZachThibeau> nope and I wouldn't recommend doing so either
17:06:11 <Hamscer> why not ?
17:07:49 <Hamscer> So how do i solve the issue ?
17:07:54 <Hamscer> Of not having Java...
17:07:56 <Hamscer> I mean.
17:07:56 <ZachThibeau> to do what you ask would require admin privilidges and the java plugin is proprietary meaning we can't edit so there is no solution
17:08:27 <Hamscer> So if i dont have reg priv's im screwed ?

17:10:00 <Hamscer> Well ig uess i need to re edit chrome ...Ok ill share it on forums when done
17:10:30 <ZachThibeau> you're best off not touching it anyways, to do so would circumvent whatever the IT tech (or whoever owns the computer) security, or if you did access the registry you run the risk of ruining the computer as you need to find the specific reg key etc

17:12:03 <ZachThibeau> and like I said it's been discussed on the forum and it was decided there won't be any modifications done to get java working in browsers
17:12:39 <Hamscer> Ok
