00:13:25 <craigbass1976> Anyone here? What if I just want to run OOo?
00:18:16 <dboki89> craigbass1976: I'm here, but not for long. need sleep. What about you running OOo (Portable)? You doesnload it from PA, install, and run OpenOfficePortable(.exe)...

00:20:41 <BeckySanderlin`x> you dont need the entire suite
00:21:14 <dboki89> BeckySanderlin`x: um? "download just the launcher"? You mean download just the OpenOfficePortable app
00:21:48 <BeckySanderlin`x> well, thats if he wants it locally ( i would guess )
00:22:07 <dboki89> ???
00:22:11 <BeckySanderlin`x> well, hmm
00:22:19 <dboki89> sorry, I'm too tired to grasp what you're saying...
00:22:28 <BeckySanderlin`x> your right to an extent
00:22:38 <dboki89> if he's in here, I guess he wants a portable evrsion of OO.o
00:22:56 <BeckySanderlin`x> yah but im referring to the launcher
00:23:03 <BeckySanderlin`x> which he may or may not want/need
00:23:15 <BeckySanderlin`x> so again, to an extent you are right
00:23:18 <BeckySanderlin`x> it all depends on him
00:23:32 <dboki89> ah, you mean the Menu, or Platform as it's called now

00:24:08 <dboki89> ?
00:24:14 <dboki89> again, say what?
00:24:33 <dboki89> that's a program which makes apps portable
00:24:34 <BeckySanderlin`x> you say its called the platforum, but on the site its referred to on the main page as the launcher
00:24:43 <BeckySanderlin`x> or..
00:24:47 <BeckySanderlin`x> oh
00:24:55 <BeckySanderlin`x> ok, back to hulu. nevermind me

00:35:28 <craigbass1976> BeckySanderlin`x, I was putting my kids to bed, but what I wanted was a way for my wife to run openoffice at work. She was going to say "Oops, I accidentally installed OOo" but I was looking for something else and ran across portable apps. Looks as though getting the platform and then installing the OOo component (the latter is in process right now on a test box) is the way to go.
00:36:07 <craigbass1976> I guess the new MS office is wicked... and her company ran out and bought all new licenses...

17:59:10 <SteveLamerton> Heya ZachThibeau, indeed, I am back though! How are you?
17:59:13 <Gizmokid2005> as of late, not so well, but prior to yesterday, not too bad, been very busy. Not enough time to work on Spicebird (though it should be ready)...working on a podcast...yeah, been busy.
17:59:47 <ZachThibeau> SteveLamerton: other than a cold, not to bad, PChat 2.0 is getting there
18:00:26 <SteveLamerton> Gizmokid2005: I know the feeling, always so much to do
18:00:33 <ZachThibeau> working on a new codebase for the renamed CoolPlayer project I'm working on
18:01:49 <SteveLamerton> ZachThibeau: Sounds good, much to do before 2.0?
18:02:04 <ZachThibeau> enough to keep me busy
18:02:11 <ZachThibeau> a lot of the issues are with the xchat core
18:02:35 <ZachThibeau> but some of the changes we did could of caused it too

18:04:23 <ZachThibeau> oh yeah, the only thing thats keeping us from moving away from gtk entirely is the core still depends on glib gthread etc

18:06:57 <ZachThibeau> wow
18:06:58 <SteveLamerton> ZachThibeau: So you are just using wxWidgets for the UI?
18:07:11 <ZachThibeau> SteveLamerton: yeah for now
18:07:33 <ZachThibeau> still working on core edits to ween it off it's dependency of glib :P
18:08:24 <ZachThibeau> enough work has been done to the core to even turn it into a library if I wanted to
18:08:37 <SteveLamerton> Well if you need a hand with wxWidgets threading ever just ask, I have had more practice with it than I could ever want :P
18:09:09 <ZachThibeau> any kind of help is appreaciated
18:09:32 <ZachThibeau> lol actually I've been working with a team now instead of working solo
18:11:42 <SteveLamerton> Good move, I have trouble dealing with Toucan solo
18:13:46 <ZachThibeau> well if you need help I could certainly give a hand with some stuff

18:16:12 <SteveLamerton> Ahhh, they have moved to the new files interface, how annoying
18:16:49 <ZachThibeau> anyways I've started getting out of my comfort zone and started working with multimedia api such as direct show api etc since I'm rewriting ChillPlayer (coolplayer project revival thing I'm working on) and yeah which is why I prefer googlecode, simple and they haven't really changed anything other than giving users a choice from svn to also include mercurial
18:17:33 <ZachThibeau> I didn't get to ask but I noticed you were with wxwidgets crew on gsoc, how was that btw
18:18:29 <SteveLamerton> Really good, wrote about 300 unit tests, I like to think my wx knowledge is prettydecent now as I ended up testing most of the controls!
18:19:37 <ZachThibeau> nice, I'm tempted to try and get into gsoc but I don't know where I would find the time
18:19:53 <ZachThibeau> I also noticed wxqt being worked on during gsoc too
18:21:05 <SteveLamerton> Yep, it is an intriguing project, not yet production quality but making good progress, it would open wx up to a lot more platforms
18:21:26 <ZachThibeau> I would think especially on mobile platforms where qt is on too
18:22:15 <SteveLamerton> Indeed, should be very useful in those cases
18:22:29 <ZachThibeau> I'm really like wxwidget 2.9
18:22:33 <ZachThibeau> ..1 stuff
18:22:53 <ZachThibeau> stupid finger of mine prematurely hit enter lol
18:23:06 <SteveLamerton> Yes, there is lots of awesome new stuff!
18:23:15 <ZachThibeau> some of the stuff in PChat 2.0 could only be done using the svn version :P
18:23:32 <ZachThibeau> mostly some unicode stuff that the xchat core was using
18:24:30 <ZachThibeau> right now my main focus is to try and get our text interface working properly, currently certain characters aren't being displayed correctly
18:24:48 <SteveLamerton> Yep, loads of unicode changes, plently of new controls, lots of new unit tests ;)
18:24:55 <ZachThibeau> lol
18:25:30 <ZachThibeau> yeah defintely someone like you could help with the PChat 2.0 UI :P
18:26:41 <SteveLamerton> Some neat debugging stuff too. Actually as of Toucan 3.1 I will no longer be using upx on Toucan to allow people to send in better diagnostics. And if you send me an email I will see what I can do, can't promise anything though, but uni finishes for christmas at the end of next week so I should be able to do something!
18:26:53 <ZachThibeau> oh cool

18:32:19 <ZachThibeau> and all the releases we do are gcc compiled

18:32:59 <SteveLamerton> Ok :)
18:33:19 <ZachThibeau> took them long enough but they have link time code generation optimization :D
18:34:28 <SteveLamerton> Neat, I might have to take another look, been using Visual Studio for a while as mingw wasn't moving very quick, the last time I used it it was still packaging gcc 3.4.5 I think
18:34:28 <ZachThibeau> speaking of which I should peep into gcc's code repository for new updates and bleeding edge stuff
18:34:42 <ZachThibeau> I'm using tdm mingw :P

21:42:32 <sar3th> just the size, really
21:45:12 <Gizmokid2005> KindOne: the reason some aren't is because it breaks the apps when it's compressed...so the ones that can be are compressed.

21:46:45 <KindOne> alright thanks
21:46:57 <ChrisMorgan> KindOne: and along with decreasing the size, from slow USB disks this tends to make them a tad faster than uncompressed - the processing power taken to decompress it is faster than the disk read time.

23:04:08 <ChrisMorgan> There's no [AppNamePortable] to change inside the file.
23:05:03 <ChrisMorgan> It's a headerless INI file (or to be specific, it will ignore any header)
23:06:05 <Simeon> ok
23:06:21 <Simeon> youre right. But that still leaves the filename to be change
23:06:22 <Simeon> d
23:06:42 <ChrisMorgan> True. I've considered that to be fairly minor
23:07:07 <Simeon> But its a hassle for the user imho
23:07:39 <ChrisMorgan> I wonder how many users actually use it. I wish I knew.
23:09:19 <Simeon> true.
23:10:11 <Simeon> I still think it should be changed. Gnight all.
