11:22:08 <pa_4368> Hi, quick question for y'all: Aren't some components (as in basically the ones particular to chrome and not in chromium) of chrome proprietary? How do we get around that in the portable spin of it. Are they excluded? Also isn't chrome trademarked, etc.? Thanks.
11:24:30 <DannyMuniz> I think that will answer your question, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome
11:28:24 <pa_4368> I don't see any mention of the PA edition in that whole article... :(
11:28:49 <DannyMuniz> no but it dose mention that it is OpenSource
11:33:07 <ChrisMorgan> pa_4368: the Chrome/Chromium differences are listed a bit in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#Chromium - our portable version is an online installer, which downloads Chrome from Google's servers and effectively installs it to the user's drive, putting the wrapper which makes it portable around it. It also doesn't use the Google Updater.
11:54:48 <pa_4368> Ah, I see. Although I believe the updater has since been open-sourced. Also, is the ability to do that rolled into google's own source tree? As in, does the installer simply run the thing with some flags or something that make it write out all its sqlite files and what not to a particular place?
11:55:08 <pa_4368> Oh, also what about the trademarked name + logo that's all over the pa.c site?
11:56:47 *** TPFC-SYSTEM (opera@cs181095174.pp.htv.fi) has joined #portableapps
11:59:39 <ChrisMorgan> pa_4368: the updater isn't something that can really be made portable.
12:02:30 <ChrisMorgan> As for the branding, that is something that I have wondered about, but John (or his lawyer) will have gone over the legal aspects of it, so I personally am satisfied (and I do care about such things). If you'd like more information about it, you'd do best to ask him about it directly.
12:17:37 <pa_4368> ChrisMorgan: Ah, all very interesting. Thanks.
12:17:49 <pa_4368> Have a good one, peace. :)

13:03:40 <TPFC-SYSTEM> However, three memory modules instead of two would produce better performance.

13:26:09 <azizLIGHTS> can i install firefox portable on my desktop, and move it to any flashdrives, or any dir, interghangably and run firefox portable successfully or does it have to be anchored to the root of the drive or something
13:27:30 <DannyMuniz> you can use it in your pc just keep it in C:\PortableApps\ or C:\FirefoxPortable
13:27:59 <DannyMuniz> as long as there is no spaces in path you are good :")
13:30:38 <azizLIGHTS> why does it have to be there
13:31:06 <azizLIGHTS> how is this portable then
13:31:50 <azizLIGHTS> ಠ_ಠ
13:32:03 <TPFC-SYSTEM> The drive-less absolute path of Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition has to stay the same.
13:32:55 <TPFC-SYSTEM> That is, you can move it from "C:\PortableApps" to "I:\PortableApps", but not to "I:\Portable Applications".
13:33:48 <DannyMuniz> there can't be any spaces in the path of its location
13:35:00 <azizLIGHTS> so it cant be in c:\program files\PortableApps
13:35:09 <DannyMuniz> no
13:35:43 <TPFC-SYSTEM> "Program Files" is a problematic location anyway.
13:36:00 <TPFC-SYSTEM> For example, fre:ac and Sumatra PDF are NOT portable if run from there.
13:37:48 <azizLIGHTS> is it possible to move X:\FirefoxPortable to X:\PortrableApps\FirefoxPortable
13:38:08 <DannyMuniz> yes that is how it is ment to be
13:38:08 <azizLIGHTS> that way i can mvove it to C:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable and not have tons of portable apps in my C:\
13:38:55 <azizLIGHTS> what about renaming the dir FirefoxPortable to something else?
13:39:00 <DannyMuniz> that is how i always had them on my computer
13:39:14 <azizLIGHTS> C:\PortableApps\WorkFirefox
13:39:37 <azizLIGHTS> i want two portable firefoxesm one for work, one for home
13:39:50 <azizLIGHTS> C:\PortableApps\HomeFirefox
13:40:14 <DannyMuniz> ok you can do that but you will not be able run them both at the same time
13:40:23 <TPFC-SYSTEM> http://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#second_profile
13:40:41 <DannyMuniz> oh yea i forgot about that
13:41:42 <azizLIGHTS> would -no-remote -p <profile> let me run both profiles at the same time, with one install of portable firefox, then?

13:42:34 <DannyMuniz> i my self would not do that
13:42:49 <DannyMuniz> i would not even sugest it
13:42:55 <azizLIGHTS> hm ok
13:43:07 <azizLIGHTS> how does firefox portable handle being default browser
13:43:15 <azizLIGHTS> on win7
13:43:22 <DannyMuniz> what you can do is use 2 diferent browsers
13:43:29 <DannyMuniz> you can't
13:43:40 <DannyMuniz> that would meant that it will not be portable
13:44:55 <azizLIGHTS> interesting
13:45:32 <DannyMuniz> if you set it as default browser it would brake its portability
13:48:44 <DannyMuniz> ok so my custome pc price is $1,342.49 so far

18:58:01 <dob1> hi, why it is not possible to run the "normal" firefox and the portable firefox together?
18:58:55 <TPFC-SYSTEM> When portable Firefox is running, it saves its settings in the same place as normal Firefox.
18:59:17 <TPFC-SYSTEM> The settings are backed up and deleted when you exit portable Firefox.
18:59:41 <dob1> ok but i am sure that it uses a different profile, isn't it?
19:00:11 <dob1> i mean, firefox settings are saved in the profile directory
19:01:27 <TPFC-SYSTEM> AFAIK, portable Firefox uses the "-profile" command line switch that makes Firefox somewhat portable.
19:02:16 <dob1> ok as i was thinking, so the portable edition will use like a temporary profile, the installed firefox will use the normal profile, so where is the conflict?
19:02:16 <TPFC-SYSTEM> Anyway, running a PortableApps.com application and the corresponding non-portable application simultaneously has potential to cause data loss.
19:03:01 <TPFC-SYSTEM> The risk may be small, I haven't tried that myself.
19:05:17 <dob1> i don't know, maybe the portable apps doesn't work in this way, there is something that i miss
