09:27:06 <TPFC-SYSTEM> I think that's the only option. :(
09:27:53 <pa_3970> mmkay...thanks
09:28:04 <TPFC-SYSTEM> However, many applications actually save their settings in the %appdata% directory (you can enter %appdata% in the address bar of Windows Explorer).
09:28:32 <pa_3970> application data?

10:38:31 <CrueLC> 0hai
10:40:10 <CrueLC> Firefox and Pidgin are AOL's property, and will be shareware from Sep 1
10:40:42 <DannyMuniz> do you have a link for that report
10:40:44 <DannyMuniz> ?
10:42:53 <CrueLC> All links perish within minutes of being found, AOL doesn't want it to be disclosed... for now
10:43:09 <CrueLC> Guess why Firefox Sync was implemented?
10:43:58 <CrueLC> Sync is the core of future registration scheme
10:44:51 <DannyMuniz> untill that rumore is confirm we can't do anything about it, so for now is just a rumor
10:45:22 <DannyMuniz> and firefox sync is just a new future much like opera has
10:45:50 <CrueLC> Features don't go out of just "we want this"
10:46:38 <CrueLC> they come out of a certain plan, which takes financial restrictions into account
10:46:40 <DannyMuniz> well you see opera work on mobile devices as well as many other platforms and now firefox is taking the same lead
10:47:09 <CrueLC> Opera is pay2port
10:47:57 <DannyMuniz> opera lets you sync your pc browser to your phones opera mini
10:48:42 <CrueLC> Well, that is part of the "online enviromment" they are creating
10:49:17 <CrueLC> and the online enviromment is centered around my.opera.com
10:51:02 <DannyMuniz> and firefox is doing the samething as well as microsoft with there new win7 phone and tablets that will be out soon, this is just a competative stratergy that companyes do
10:52:15 <CrueLC> Mozilla is not doing the same, they're just a yo-yo, thrown by AOL, and with the rope being cut
10:52:20 <CrueLC> cut off *
10:53:39 <CrueLC> However, it was AOL to make such an enviromment first
10:54:58 <CrueLC> AOL started expanding that in 1998, around the same time as Opera started up.
10:55:08 *** CrueLC is now known as CruelCoke
10:56:39 <CruelCoke> AOL lost revenues given by ICQ ads, so they want to re-acquire and shareware-ize FF and Pidgin...
10:57:44 <CruelCoke> Purple, with all branches, will be closed-source again.
11:00:27 <CruelCoke> Well, I am back to Opera for both IRC and browsing.
11:01:55 <CruelCoke> Companies like AOL don't give their services away that easily, every brand sold is likely an attempt to quickly grab some cash, to (re-)acquire something
11:02:41 <CruelCoke> so, hearing the lawnmower, I run away from the park.

13:35:19 <DannyMuniz> ChrisMorgan: have you heard anything about this http://tinyurl.com/6c64pc5
13:35:42 <ChrisMorgan> DannyMuniz: why do you use URL shorteners?
13:36:17 <DannyMuniz> is just habit now i guess
13:37:01 <ChrisMorgan> Please restrain it, then. It's extra effort for you and is less useful to us and adds no value at all.
13:37:17 <DannyMuniz> ok np
13:40:30 <ChrisMorgan> What a crackpot.
13:43:44 <DannyMuniz> that would really suck if its true...
13:44:51 <ChrisMorgan> True? You even vaguely considered that it could be true?
13:47:08 <DannyMuniz> i don't know cause there is a lot of companies that are willing to such tings. just look at Microsoft buying Skype. there is now guaranty that Skype is going to stay free
13:47:28 <DannyMuniz> no**

13:50:13 <DannyMuniz> now i have some searching and i have not found any evidence that AOL is making that move, but we never know
13:50:29 <DannyMuniz> I have made**
13:50:34 <george2> Sorry to cut in- I was just reading the logs. I really don't think there is any chance of Mozilla selling out to anyone. They make millions every year, so there wouldn't be any financial reason.
13:55:11 <george2> And while someone could (theoretically) buy the Mozilla logos/trademarks, you can't really buy an open-source project.
13:56:15 <george2> Besides, Mozilla'd never live it down in the community if they sold out :)
13:58:01 <ChrisMorgan> DannyMuniz: (a) he was saying that AOL owned them. AOL owns neither. I seem to recall that they were a backer of Mozilla perhaps five years ago (not sure if they are still), but they've . And Pidgin started out as Gaim - G-something (GNOME? GTK? Don't know which) AOL Instant Messenger client; AOL told them to change the name, and that's when it became Pidgin (that was probably about four years ago). They never owned it.
13:58:28 <ChrisMorgan> (b) Both are open source. Unless they own copyright for /all/ contributions, they can't change the license.
13:58:49 <ChrisMorgan> Own copyright/get permission from authors.
13:59:38 <ChrisMorgan> I believe Mozilla uses copyright assignment, but I wouldn't particularly expect Pidgin to (though it may potentially)
14:00:53 <DannyMuniz> ok but here he said that it would be done be September 1 http://portableapps.chrismorgan.info/irc/logs/?t=2011-05-13#T10-40-10
14:01:06 <DannyMuniz> by*
14:01:37 <ChrisMorgan> (c) Even if they did somehow own them and chose to charge for them, people wouldn't pay for them. Iceweasel or a similar differently branded version would become popular. See what happened with OpenOffice.org - most of the best contributors start The Document Foundation and LibreOffice emerges rapidly, producing new features faster.
14:03:21 <george2> Yeah, but they --> http://www.familyradio.com/index2.html say it'll be done by May 21 ;)
14:04:54 <DannyMuniz> well ill just leave it at that and just wait for prove of it to show up everywhere
14:07:00 <ChrisMorgan> george2: "Donations Server Temporarily Down" - what use have they for donations if they won't need to worry about it next week? I don't understand quite why people insist on misreading and misapplying and contradicting the Bible in producing dates...
14:07:25 <george2> Last month they said the world would end on April 21.
14:07:54 <ChrisMorgan> Really?
14:08:11 <george2> Yep.
14:08:12 <ChrisMorgan> I haven't bothered following any of it.
14:08:44 <george2> I just say a link to the site on one of the PAM updates, and thought it was funny.
14:08:50 <george2> *saw
14:09:24 <george2> No, I don't go around watching it all the time, to see when the world will end next :)
14:09:54 <DannyMuniz> man the world will end when the Lord says that it is time go then it is time to go but until then we can only wait for it
14:10:54 <george2> Yeah, I don't think they're reading the same Bible...
14:16:16 <ChrisMorgan> This duplicate comment spam reducer is a real nuisance... I have to keep on coming up with new ways of saying "Thanks, committed" in the PAL translations thread.
14:16:29 <ChrisMorgan> Can't use the one way more than about three times.
14:17:32 <george2> Is that a Drupal module? Maybe John or somebody can increase the limit.

14:26:52 <Alley^Away> hehehehehe
14:27:17 <Alley^Away> what an utterly lame load of BS - Firefox as shareware
14:27:45 <Alley^Away> I got an Eiffel tower for sale for anyone believing it even for a second :)
14:32:30 <george2> Has anyone tried out the new Spybot S&D 2 beta yet? It's pretty neat- still got a few bugs though. Looks a little harder to portable-ize than the Stable.
