01:35:19 <_mike> hello
01:35:30 <_mike> im making my first portable app
01:35:42 <_mike> its a .net app
01:36:17 <_mike> it use clickonce
01:38:49 <_mike> gizmokid2005
01:38:56 <_mike> maienM
01:39:03 <Mir> dont ping
01:39:15 <Gizmokid2005> _mike: don't ping. .Net apps cannot be made portable right now.
01:39:20 <Gizmokid2005> because of their .NET dependency.
01:39:39 <_mike> what happens if your going to use it one pc that have .net
01:39:52 <Gizmokid2005> then it doesn't matter if it's portable now does it?
01:39:55 <Mir> it has to have a specific version of .net
01:40:18 <Mir> forexample there is a program i like that requires .net 4.0
01:40:38 <Mir> could not use it at work because we didnt have .net at all
01:41:47 * Mir beats Gizmokid2005 with a well endowed female cosplayer from the anime convention in los angeles
01:42:10 <Gizmokid2005> Mir: you know better.
01:42:15 <Mir> :3

01:57:24 <_mike> here the changes
01:57:29 <_mike> im still lost

03:04:13 <horusofoz> I have been interested in developing PortableApps for some time but have been unable to follow the current docs. I am interested in providing some small financial sum to start a project to develop an illustrated guide with explanations and exercises for using PAL. Just wondering if there is any interest in such a project for other beginners and any interest in contributing text to it by devs.
03:08:33 <horusofoz> Would any of the devs here consider contributing an exercise or 2 or making any other instructional contribution to such a proposed guide?
03:08:57 *** rcmaehl has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
03:09:17 <kAlug_> horusofoz: I can contribute by explaining some steps.
03:10:02 *** rcmaehl (~rcmaehl@unaffiliated/rcmaehl) has joined #portableapps
03:10:31 *** rcmaehl has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
03:11:21 <kAlug_> Making a portable app involves 5 steps: 1-get; 2-check portability; 3-make PAF files (appinfo.ini etc.); 4-make launcher and 5-publish.
03:13:43 <kAlug_> This means a 5-chapter guide.
03:16:27 *** SergentSiler is now known as SrgSiler|AFK
03:20:18 <horusofoz> kAlug_: Cool. ATM I am wanting to identify a project manager for the proposal. I am hoping to engage Chris Morgan as none would know PAL me than he. The guide would be illustrated, and include the five basic sections as you've outlined and exercises to practice for each step (composing a full walkthrough overall) and finally a few full walkthroughs/challenges at the end.
03:21:23 <horusofoz> **PAL more than he
03:22:08 <horusofoz> Oh and an intro for people who are completely new to PAs
03:22:29 <horusofoz> Basically a completely free PAL for dummies guide
03:24:12 <horusofoz> Any thoughts from long timers like Gizmokid2005 , MaienM , zachthibeau , OliverK , Mir ?
03:27:37 <horusofoz> I would think it would be great for PortableApps.com uptake/adaption to have this in development when the next beta or final PAM comes out.
03:33:27 <horusofoz> kAlug_: Can you send me an email at <nick> at g m a i l so that once I have successfully engaged someone to manage the project I could forward your address to them as a potential contributor?
03:41:03 <kAlug_> horusofoz: Your nickname is the same on the forums (http://portableapps.com/user/70613)? Just confirming you're the same guy.
03:44:16 <horusofoz> Yeah that's me. Unfortunately despite my 3 years around PA.com still haven't managed a single app :(
03:46:17 <kAlug_> horusofoz: sent.
03:47:57 <horusofoz> Cheers. I've emailed my idea and offer to ChrisMorgan and will let you know the outcome.
04:03:22 * Mir beats horusofoz for pinging
04:03:58 <horusofoz> Mir: Pinging?
04:04:08 <Mir> [20:24] <horusofoz> Any thoughts from long timers like Gizmokid2005 , MaienM , zachthibeau , OliverK , Mir ?
04:04:16 <Mir> which i just sadly did
04:04:20 <Mir> T_T
04:04:49 <Mir> when you say more than one nick at a time it sets off a b unch of nick catchers
04:05:24 <horusofoz> My bad. Just trying to see if you guys have any thoughts on the idea.
04:05:51 <horusofoz> Can you explain nick catchers for this unlearned one?
04:06:38 <horusofoz> Oh and of course, any thoughts on the proposal ;)

04:12:06 *** kAlug_ has quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
04:12:24 <horusofoz> libertyshield: You cannot. Both the applications are proprietary payware, making it illegal. Also there are technical limitations as AV's integrate into the OS and base applications.
04:13:04 <horusofoz> E.g. Mcafee has addins for Outlook and Internet Explorer.
04:13:05 <libertyshield> Its illegal even if I own it?
04:13:32 <horusofoz> It is my understanding that the software license prohibits you from doing.
04:14:07 <libertyshield> I just want a good antivirus software to run off my flash drive
04:14:19 <libertyshield> I don't see how installing it on a flash drive would be illegal? hmm
04:14:25 <horusofoz> The aforementioned technical limitations are also show stoppers.
04:14:27 <libertyshield> its just a location...
04:15:27 <libertyshield> I downloaded the antivirus software clamwin off the portableapp website though id prefer something like mcafee or trendmicro
04:19:14 <libertyshield> any knowledge of other antivirus softwares?
04:20:00 <horusofoz> ClamWin is portable. It's open source nature allows this to be so. Trend Micro, Mcafee and other AV suites are inherently designed to not be portable to prevent piracy.
04:22:02 <libertyshield> Know of anything though?
04:22:24 <libertyshield> TrendMicro has a portable version but has to connect to the internet which is kind of a big vulnerability
