02:45:27 <ZachThibeau> hola John
02:45:44 <JohnTHaller> hola. how goes it
02:45:53 <kAlug> HAI JohnTHaller!
02:45:53 <ZachThibeau> not bad
02:46:01 <JohnTHaller> hi kAlug
02:46:11 <JohnTHaller> anything interesting in your worlds today?
02:46:34 <ZachThibeau> thought of writing my own updater for portableapps.com, based off of the ubuntu software center idea, mostly for the fun of it
02:47:05 <JohnTHaller> WHat language?
02:47:24 <ZachThibeau> c++ using wxwidgets
02:47:59 <JohnTHaller> Ah ok. I'm working on one in Delphi as part of the platform proper as well.
02:48:31 <ZachThibeau> I thought of using delphi but lol when you don't have delphi, makes it hard to with it
02:48:41 <ZachThibeau> ** to work with it,
02:48:50 <ZachThibeau> so I decided to sticking with what I have
02:49:11 <JohnTHaller> I may have a solution for that. I'm going to be chatting with Embarcadero about possibly getting additional licenses in exchange for promotion or something similar.
02:49:11 <kAlug> I just realized... as we don't support installation to $PROGRAMFILES, why do the installer/launcher allows it?
02:49:18 <JohnTHaller> We just haven
02:49:33 <JohnTHaller> We just haven't written (AND translated) a detection routine for it yet.
02:50:21 <ZachThibeau> nice, that would be cool, personally I like to learn more delphi/pascal I know freepascal is great but the platform doesn't quite work with it :P
02:50:44 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, FreePascal wasn't quite there yet when I checked.
02:51:18 <JohnTHaller> So we're using Delphi XE now. XE2 is coming out shortly (month or so) with 64bit support, Mac support and theming built in.
02:51:25 <ZachThibeau> nice
02:52:01 <ZachThibeau> guess I'll hold off my idea until I hear something from you about delphi
02:52:06 <JohnTHaller> And a rumored update to add Linux support by year end. I think it does iOS and Android out of box as well.
02:52:45 <kAlug> Hey John, is there any other problems with my portable app template?
02:54:18 <JohnTHaller> kAlug: I tweaked it a bit. License to LauncherLicense filename. Adjusted the readme (not all apps are open source). Tweaked the help.html a little to remove those line breaks.
02:57:28 <kAlug> JohnTHaller: Can you send it to me?
02:58:14 <JohnTHaller> http://portableapps.com/temp/apptemplate.7z
02:58:18 <JohnTHaller> lemme know what you thnk
02:59:52 <JohnTHaller> Here's some theming examples in Delphi XE2. http://www.andreanolanusse.com/en/a-little-bit-about-firemonkey-and-delphi-xe2/
03:00:12 <JohnTHaller> We may explore it for platform use, but will likely stick with native controls to maintain Wine compatibility and accessibility.
03:00:38 <ZachThibeau> very nice
03:01:07 <JohnTHaller> Speaking of accesibility, did you guys try this yet? http://portableapps.com/node/28780
03:02:37 <ZachThibeau> br right back making a reboot

03:08:21 *** ZachThibeau (~zachthibe@unaffiliated/zachthibeau) has joined #portableapps
03:10:09 <JohnTHaller> kAlug: look at the template?
03:11:36 <kAlug> JohnTHaller: Yeo. There were some discussion regarding the 'OSI Certified' part: http://portableapps.com/node/28699
03:12:09 <JohnTHaller> Ah yes. Perhaps we need two bits there with an HTML comment to remove the one that doesn't apply
03:12:37 <JohnTHaller> Oh wait, i forgot to but the paragraph end tags back in the version I sent you, too
03:13:34 <kAlug> I've closed the </p>s and </li>s.
03:14:56 <kAlug> A question: how did you got that certification mark?
03:16:30 <JohnTHaller> How is this? http://pastebin.com/fJdbCDNj
03:17:11 <JohnTHaller> You have to follow the guidelines to use the OSI certified trademark. All the bits have to be open source under a license they have approved (MIT, BSD, MPL, GPL, Apache are all good here) and you have to follow all the bits of those licenses.
03:17:46 <JohnTHaller> And I just fixed the typo in my comment: packages -> packaged
03:22:29 <kAlug> I see you removed the indentation.
03:23:16 <JohnTHaller> Not a fan of unnecessary white space in areas I know older browsers have issues with it. Of course, I used to do Netscape 3 and IE3 fixes to HTML, so I have twitchy issues about that stuff.
03:23:20 <JohnTHaller> Now get off my lawn
03:23:34 <ZachThibeau> lol
03:24:01 <kAlug> Chrome is missing from the Outdated Apps list.
03:24:30 <JohnTHaller> No it isn't
03:24:33 <JohnTHaller> It's already done :)
03:24:45 <gluxon> nice :P
03:25:23 <JohnTHaller> App Tsunami :)
03:25:41 <JohnTHaller> Oh, and if you didn't see, this just dropped an hour and a half ago: http://portableapps.com/news/2011-08-10_-_libreoffice_portable_3.4.2_released
03:26:01 <kAlug> Ahh... I forgot it doesn't have a release announcement.
03:26:34 <gluxon> Yeah, I didn't realize we were going to do the 3.4 branch. Nice that we are though. (acutally, really nice!)
03:26:38 <gluxon> :)
03:26:51 <JohnTHaller> It does have a release announcement on the homepage, RSS, twitter, etc
03:26:52 <gluxon> Hm.. I'm over using the word nice :'(
03:27:40 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, after looking at 3.3.x and 3.4.2, this is the first one they call enterprise ready and they link it first now. There are a couple bugs that may cause issues in select groups, but they should be fixed in 3.4.3 within a couple weeks. And we'll be able to build within a couple hours then as I finally updated the auto-builder for it.
03:27:46 <kAlug> I mean Chrome Dev.

03:28:46 <gluxon> GordCaswell: Hey :)
03:30:04 <GordCaswell> JohnTHaller: I see you D/L'd the Evince rev. Do you plan on pushing it out soonish?
03:31:10 <JohnTHaller> GordCaswell: Indeed I do :)
03:31:21 <JohnTHaller> kAlug: I updated it already
03:32:05 <kAlug> I saw. The entire phrase is "I've forgot Chrome Dev doesn't have a release announcement."
03:32:19 <JohnTHaller> Oh ok. I thought you meant LibreOffice... derp
03:32:26 *** LTxda (~anon@c-98-194-107-10.hsd1.tx.comcast.net) has joined #portableapps
03:32:31 <GordCaswell> Kk, figured it might drop at some point with the "tsunami" and all, but I noted you did mention PR4 is coming soon, so that obviously is a priority before app revisions :)
03:32:52 <JohnTHaller> Referncing my earlier, here is a page from a presentation I did in 1997... yes 1997... on the importance of support web standards and why working in IE3, IE4, Netscape 3 and Netscape 4 was important to our clients: http://portableapps.com/temp/webapp1997.png
03:33:54 <kAlug> help.html: http://kalug.net/p/1003/ . I've collapsed some single-directive CSS.
03:33:54 <GizmoBot> kAlug: Welcome to the PortableApps.com official chatroom. Ask your question and someone should be able to help you shortly. If you still don't get an answer, try posting on the forums: http://portableapps.com/forums
03:34:16 <kAlug> lol
03:34:21 <JohnTHaller> And that is, in fact, a relatively modern looking, frame-less, cross-platform and -browser, web app I built in 1997
03:34:34 <JohnTHaller> It even had rollover states on all the 'buttons' across the top.
03:35:34 <gluxon> JohnTHaller: Wow. Was :hover even usable back then?
03:36:07 <JohnTHaller> No such thing. It was a javascript rollover.
03:36:27 <kAlug> Does anyone here knows something about domain renewal/expiration?
03:36:34 <JohnTHaller> I do, kAlug
03:37:20 <JohnTHaller> gluxon: It really took some doing to get it working properly. But I built an HTML3/4-compatible framework that worked on everything. The corporate bank used it on their first dozen or two web apps. The departments loved it.
03:38:58 <gluxon> Not sure what to say, other than, that's amazing :D
03:39:36 <kAlug> kAlug.Net is going to expire today. I think I'll let it expire so I can change the registrar. How much time is necessary to wait between expiration and re-registration? (I don't want things down for too much time)
03:40:08 <JohnTHaller> You don't need to let it expire to switch registrars. If it gets to that point, it may very well be snapped up by a spammer automatically.
03:40:44 <gluxon> kAlug: Why not just transfer it?
03:40:47 <JohnTHaller> gluxon: Thanks. It used all corporate colors and stuff. I messed about with HTML in my spare time so by the time they were ready, I was ready to impress them. It was odd having a junior dev who'd only been there 10 months presenting to the whole dept
03:41:47 <ZachThibeau> yeah kAlug renew it asap, nothing worse than domain hunters
03:42:23 <gluxon> Guess you've been impressing people before PortableApps.com :)
03:42:53 <ZachThibeau> I need to fix up one of my sites lol
03:43:15 <kAlug> 1. My current registrar is very bureaucratic. 2. The one I want switch to doesn't seem to support transfer for anything besides .com. Fortunately the prices are the same.
03:45:22 <JohnTHaller> gluxon: I really enjoyed it back then. And I have done other fun stuff. I did do that MAFIAA thing, too.
03:46:05 <kAlug> JohnTHaller: did you saw my latest h.elp.html (#1003)?
03:46:07 <JohnTHaller> (just renewed the domain, it'll be back online shortly)
03:46:52 <JohnTHaller> kAlug: looks good to me. shall we go with that?
03:50:07 <JohnTHaller> Side note: It's VERY odd looking back at this as this was the last time I have a public presentation before OSCON 2 weeks ago.
03:52:33 <GordCaswell> kAlug: when you renew your domain, I suggest going with a registrar that allows you to hide your personal information, as it's publically available right now
03:52:37 <kAlug> JohnTHaller: just let me check a few things here. BTW, are you going to publish the OSCON slides?
03:53:01 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, I should do that. Sadly, they have no commentary notes and most of the meat is not on the slides.
03:53:47 <kAlug> GordCaswell: I just renewed it. I'm not sure if I'll need to wait 60 days, but I'll some research.
03:55:47 <kAlug> JohnTHaller: where does the Platform gets the drive name from?
03:56:07 <ZachThibeau> autorun.inf iirc
03:56:08 <JohnTHaller> autorun.inf
03:59:22 <kAlug> Ah. It seems that my custom AutoRunInfRewrite+PortableFonts+PlatformStart+Eject app deletes it while it's running.
04:00:10 <JohnTHaller> ouch
04:00:44 <kAlug> This is repetitive: (Other\Source\Readme.txt) "To use it, copy AppNamePortable.ini from this directory to AppNamePortable.ini next to AppNamePortable.exe."
04:01:04 <ZachThibeau> finished the touches on my new websites logo :D
04:01:42 <JohnTHaller> kAlug: true
04:03:08 <kAlug> Suggestions: 1. Rename AppNamePortable.ini to *AppName*Portable.ini. 2. Remember the maintainer to replace AppName with *AppName* in Readme.txt too.
04:06:07 <kAlug> Just remembered: I need some help with TortoiseHg Portable: http://portableapps.com/node/28151#comment-181225
