16:47:39 <kAlug> TPFC-SYSTEM: How are updates to apps in TPFC handled? Should I post a comment in the app's page?
16:48:28 <TPFC-SYSTEM> The recommended way is to post to the forum thread.
16:49:25 <TPFC-SYSTEM> Checker has already updated the entry, though: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2169
16:50:51 <TPFC-SYSTEM> The reason why most updates of Chromium Portable don't bring it to the main page is the update frequency filter.
16:50:52 <TPFC-SYSTEM> http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=7431
16:51:04 <kAlug> Yeah, I see. Wonder why it's using Chromium's changelog, though.
16:51:25 <TPFC-SYSTEM> In fact, I'm one of the people who most actively demanded that filter. :D
16:52:33 <TPFC-SYSTEM> And I think using Chromium's changelog is good. I assume that's what people want to know.
16:54:16 <kAlug> Sure. Unfortunately I don't know if it's adding Chromium Portable's changes too.

18:13:55 <kAlug> pa_5042: How can we help you?
18:15:47 <pa_5042> i installed portable apps to my external when my OS was xp, now I have windows 7 and it will not work(update)
18:16:23 <kAlug> Does it shows any error messages?
18:16:44 <pa_5042> only when I update
18:16:56 <kAlug> What version are you using?
18:17:35 <pa_5042> portable apps or my OS
18:17:47 <kAlug> PortableApps.com
18:18:52 <pa_5042> I don't know
18:19:32 <kAlug> Would it be this error? http://portableapps.com/node/29509
18:20:40 <pa_5042> unable to connect to portable apps. File error
18:24:16 <pa_5042> still there?
18:24:37 <kAlug> Yes
18:24:59 <kAlug> 1. So you can run the PortableApps.com Platform, right? You just can't update. 2. Can you find out the exact error message?
18:25:48 <pa_5042> the error reads "unable to connect to portable apps. File error"
18:27:57 <kAlug> Can you check if updating to the latest version fixes the issue? http://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_2.0_Pre-Release_4.1.exe
18:31:38 <pa_5042> No. It reads "error opening file for writing"
18:32:29 <kAlug> Do you know if the drive where PortableApps is installed uses NTFS?
18:33:26 <pa_5042> yes, it's ntfs
18:33:47 <kAlug> Ahh... should be a file permission issue.
18:34:38 <pa_5042> how do I address that? Please
18:35:22 <kAlug> Hold on...
18:35:42 <pa_5042> Sure, thanks
18:40:22 <kAlug> OK. Right-click the drive in My Computer, click in Properties and go to the Security tab.
18:41:44 <pa_5042> I'm there
18:42:46 <kAlug> Is there a "Everyone" group?
18:43:05 <pa_5042> yes
18:46:06 <kAlug> Click the Edit... button, select the Everyone group and check "Full Control" in the Allow column.
18:51:21 <pa_5042> It's working perfectly, Many thanks, have a good day
18:52:10 <kAlug> You're welcome. Good day for you too.

23:01:54 <pa_0439> Can I instal a Portable App on my computer's hard drive?
23:03:18 <gluxon> pa_0439: Yep :)
23:03:40 <gluxon> Just make sure you don't install it to a write protected folder, like C:\Program Files
23:04:07 <pa_0439> Do I just use the installer on the Portable App?
23:06:21 <gluxon> Yep :)
23:06:49 <pa_0439> One other question. Can I use a portable app, eg Firefox as a default program?
23:20:35 <pa_0439> Thanks for your help +gluxon I really appreciate it. Be well.
23:20:48 <gluxon> Your welcome.
23:21:08 <gluxon> About your second question, PortableApps aren't really meant to be set as default programs.
23:21:18 <gluxon> So you have two options.
23:21:46 <gluxon> You can use DefaultMyFFP
23:21:46 <gluxon> http://portableapps.com/node/7693
23:22:57 <gluxon> Or for temporary file association (not pernament), you can use eXpresso or PortableFileAssociator.
23:23:19 <gluxon> Be weary that DefaultMyFFP is a bit dated though.
23:23:25 <gluxon> It should still work though.
