18:40:01 * hpux_guru is wondering if he can cobble together either of two non-standard setups, hopes for advice.
18:42:11 <hpux_guru> I've got either a 128_MB CF plugged into a SANDISK ImageMate "8 in 1" (awfully small) or a 32_GB FAT32 partition on USB hard drive (not flash, obviously, and much bigger than I need). All I want is Firefox on PortableApps. Are either of these feasible please? Is there a preferred one (for me, preferred would be the 128_MB choice)?
18:43:47 * hpux_guru is looking for some sort of FAQ that might answer these questions....
18:48:11 <hpux_guru> Found it, size is tiny (this could almost run on a floppy, for those who still remember such things). Who knows about the media choices, I'll have to experiment.
18:51:05 * benedikt93 wonders which floppy was larger than "31-77MB"
18:53:20 <hpux_guru> http://portableapps.com/suite tells me 2MB for the platform, I think there were 2.88MB floppies. But who wants to wait for those things to spin?
18:53:52 <benedikt93> I'd guess that because of the HDD cache being disabled in the portable version (IIRC) it would fit on the CF if you don't stuff it with too many addons
18:54:11 <benedikt93> hpux_guru, that is the platform only, FF adds up on this
18:54:38 *** hr_ (~hr___@static253-201.mimer.net) has joined #portableapps
18:55:15 <benedikt93> speed-wise, I'd almost be certain that the hard drive is faster for applications
18:55:51 <hpux_guru> Right. With 128MB to grow into, I'll be all set :). I was more concerned that the Imagemate thingie (adds a bunch of no-such-device entries in Windows) would be a bad choice, and PortableApps probably wasn't designed for an external hard drive. /// Ohhhh, I infer from you that I can use either! That would do too. :) Thanks Benedikt93.
18:56:14 <hpux_guru> Uhhh, benedikt93 (echoing your proper capitalization).

20:20:57 <george2> Has John said whether he plans to release the "World's Best Flash Drive" before Christmas? He'll probably get a lot more buyers (including me) if he can.
20:21:35 <hpux_guru> benedikt93 _et al_ --- no luck so far. Both 128MB CF & 32GB FAT32 give same "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."; I'm inferring from Google research that McAfee Host Intrusion Protection may be the problem, haven't yet figured out how to authorize PortableApps.

20:39:39 <pa_4216> HELP
20:39:58 <GordCaswell> pa_4216: what can wehelp you with?
20:40:03 <pa_4216> Hello
20:40:18 <pa_4216> Just need to know if these portable are U3
20:40:38 <pa_4216> Or is U3 an obsolete technology
20:40:49 <GordCaswell> U3 is obsolete
20:40:59 <pa_4216> since when
20:41:27 <pa_4216> So these apps can be put onto any NO-U3 flash drive?
20:41:29 <GordCaswell> http://portableapps.com/node/29958#comment-186839
20:41:55 <GordCaswell> they can also be put on a drive designed for U3, but they aren't designed specifically for U3
20:42:03 <hpux_guru> benedikt93 --- https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB58629 gives info on how to disable McAfee Host Intrusion, that was the ticket. Time to play, thanks for your attention.
20:42:59 <pa_4216> So this definitely opens up portable apps to ALL drives?
20:43:20 <GordCaswell> yep
20:43:21 <pa_4216> Is version 5 on your site ready for use?
20:43:43 <GordCaswell> indeed it is
20:44:08 <pa_4216> Cool. Anything coming down the pipe lline with version 5 or beyond?
20:44:21 <GordCaswell> new features, you mean?
20:44:23 <pa_4216> Just want to know whether to check back at some point.
20:44:45 <pa_4216> Anything new beyond what you have posted?
20:44:57 <pa_4216> Bell and whistles.
20:45:23 <GordCaswell> when you run the platform and are connected to the internet, any new platform updates will be automatically brought to your attention
20:45:52 <pa_4216> Awesome! Keep up the great work!
20:45:55 <GordCaswell> a list of upcoming features can be found here (scroll down): http://portableapps.com/node/28593

22:30:37 <sl23> Hi I have a problem with AkelPadPortable not working since update to v4.7 can anyone help?
22:32:06 <ZachThibeau> it's a known issue, it's been reported on the forums, I'd say wait until there is a new update available that fixes the issue
22:36:04 <sl23> Oh thanks Zach. I tried looking at the support forum but there wasn't an entry for AkelPad? Is it to do with the app as I tried a manual update around 7-10 days ago and the same thing happened? Thanks again
22:36:38 <ZachThibeau> issue reported here http://portableapps.com/node/30062
22:37:05 <ZachThibeau> issue lies within akelpad itself
