01:26:52 <JWHough> vf2nsr: I figured out why my router kept "resseting"
01:27:01 <vf2nsr> really what happened
01:27:45 <JWHough> Apparantly, every time I connect to my router, I only get a 24 hour lease
01:28:18 <JWHough> so when that time's up, it "resets"
01:28:27 <JWHough> and I have to restart my router to get a new lease
01:28:28 <vf2nsr> should be able to get it tro give longer lease
01:28:40 <JWHough> idk how to
01:29:12 <vf2nsr> in router set up should be able to access it throgh local ip address
01:29:44 <JWHough> I scanned all the options... nada

01:40:58 <kAlug> hey John
01:41:08 *** JWHough1 is now known as JWHough
01:41:25 <gluxon> JWHough: Actually, it's not too uncommon for routers to nenew its lease in 24 hours.
01:41:37 <gluxon> I'm not sure what "release" means.
01:42:30 <JWHough> JohnTHaller: I decided not to go to Binghamton
01:42:37 <JohnTHaller> some cable/dls companies will only lease an IP for 24hrs for folks not paying for a dedicated IP
01:42:46 <JohnTHaller> JWHough: Oh yea? WHere are you thinking?
01:42:55 <gluxon> JohnTHaller: Global IP's?
01:43:08 <JWHough> Well, I paid my enrollment deposit for U of Arizona yesterday
01:43:10 <gluxon> That would make IP bans practically useless :-/
01:43:20 <JohnTHaller> ah cool. it's a could school.
01:43:22 <gluxon> College?
01:43:27 <JohnTHaller> good even
01:43:38 <JWHough> According to US News and World Report it's better than Binghamton (55 vs. 90)
01:43:51 <JWHough> but I was considering it because its better ranked over all then UA
01:44:02 <JWHough> gluxon: yep
01:44:20 <JohnTHaller> it varies a lot by major. and UofA was much bigger than I wanted school-wise. I wanted more of a campus
01:45:00 <JWHough> yao
01:45:03 <JWHough> *yap
01:45:09 <JWHough> Got denied from Carnegie Mellon, though which woulda toppled everything.
01:45:16 <JWHough> :(
01:46:18 <JWHough> JohnTHaller: how would I know if I was/wasn't paying for dedicated IP
01:46:44 <JWHough> I mean, I was never given an option either way when I signed up
01:47:43 <gluxon> JWHough: If you were paying a very high bill.
01:48:13 <gluxon> JWHough: One the serious answer, check if your IP is changing every month or so.
01:48:32 <JWHough> lol, nope, paying $40 for the fastest speed available in my area.
01:48:46 <gluxon> You probably don't have a dedicated IP then.
01:48:54 <gluxon> Those are usually used for servers.
01:49:16 <gluxon> I got lucky, Comcast doesn't reset my ip very often, so I practically have a dedicated IP.
01:49:48 <JWHough> it makes me mad, though, because my printer always works
01:49:58 <JWHough> via wireless
01:52:15 <gluxon> JWHough: It makes your mad that your printer works?
01:52:26 <kAlug> JWHough: What are you going to course?
01:52:52 <JWHough> of course not, mean that it makes me mad that my printer works but /my pc doesn/

01:53:46 <kAlug> Nice. Me too.
01:54:15 <JWHough> to be honest, if it wasn't for pa.c I woulda never gotten into programming and probably would be lost on a major (I originally wanted to do something with math, so I could be an astronaut, but I got too tall for that :P)
01:55:31 <kAlug> did you mean: astronomer?
01:57:30 <JWHough> nope, kAlug: astronaut.
01:57:45 <gluxon> JWHough: I think you may be 30 years off on that :-/
01:57:47 <JWHough> in the rocketships going to the moon and stuff
01:58:05 <JWHough> nope, I planned it all out my freshmen year.
01:58:17 <gluxon> Considering NASA has decided that robots are more efficient than men..
01:58:46 <JWHough> I even wrote a 5 page story on it for English class on it (it was to research on how you'd do your carreer, and write about how you'd get there)
01:59:11 <JWHough> No, NASA still wants peeps in the sky, but the govt dont wanna
01:59:42 <JWHough> GW Bush signed a $2 billion 20-year plan to sendem into space in this fancy rocket
02:00:50 <JWHough> but then Obama was like hell no, and cut NASA off, and in turn wants to fund abortion instead.
02:01:01 <JWHough> but lets not discuss that...
02:01:18 <kAlug> Join The Pirate Bay; I'm sure they'll want a piece of the space open for everyone (including them) once space got privatized.
02:02:07 <JWHough> lol, if I can get lucky and make something like bumptop, and sell it for a gazillion dollars, I'll be able to afford a trip into space anyway

02:55:36 <kAlug> Oh yeah, that reminds me I was think on rewriting PAL in C.
02:55:49 <vf2nsr> Hi gluxon
02:56:13 <gluxon> kAlug: I want to rewrite PAL in C++
02:56:21 <gluxon> It'll give us the ability to sequence operations in the INI.
02:57:02 <kAlug> 1. It's possible too. 2. What do you mean?
02:57:09 <gluxon> kAlug: When was the last time Chris Morgan's been around?
02:57:43 <gluxon> kAlug: Right now, the launcher has a set precedence for operations in the INI (FileWrite before FileMove).
02:57:56 <gluxon> I personally think the developer should have control of that
02:58:17 <gluxon> Based on the position of the INI section in the INI file.
02:58:56 <kAlug> Let me see the last time I summoned John and him...
02:59:37 <JWHough> Speech recognition is terrible on windows.
02:59:50 <kAlug> gluxon: March 24/25
03:00:02 <JWHough> It took me 10 minutes to say this
03:00:11 <gluxon> Hm... ok.
03:01:07 <kAlug> I was thinking on a yielding approach. So, the launcher reads a section from the INI, then finds and calls a function to handle it.
03:03:10 <JWHough> I was thinking on a Yielding a rope trick.
03:03:23 <JWHough> that's your first sentence kAlug

03:10:48 <kAlug> `hg commit`

18:43:08 <vf2nsr> hopefully it not what I had earlier this year
18:43:18 <vf2nsr> took me 6 weeks to get rid of it
18:43:54 <ZachThibeau> I had it monday, tuesday I felt fine and then wednesday I got hit, left work early and now I'm stuck in bed
18:44:06 <ZachThibeau> well not atm but you know what I mean

18:48:27 <ZachThibeau> indeed, missed 2 months I could of been working on that, but at least I'm now moved and have a steady job
18:50:53 <vf2nsr> bbiaf going to grab some more coffee
19:05:55 <ZachThibeau> holy, has it really been 5 years on portableapps.com for me? time flies for sure
19:10:50 <vf2nsr> feeling old ZachThibeau lol
19:11:30 <ZachThibeau> actually yes, not from how many years on portableapps.com but because of the gray hair I have from working at call centers
19:11:52 <vf2nsr> :)
19:12:01 <ZachThibeau> mind you it looks more like highlights than anything but it's noticable
19:12:37 <ZachThibeau> as of now though I am the youngest in my family to go grey this early
19:13:15 <vf2nsr> Well like I told my daughter when she teased me I said it may be grey but it is still there lol (loss of hair is prevelant in my family)
19:13:45 <ZachThibeau> yeah full head of hair is prefferable :P
19:14:04 <ZachThibeau> but seriously I'm 23 soon to be 24, a little early in my opinion lol
19:14:49 <vf2nsr> think of it as you being rich it is not grey but silver
19:15:50 <ZachThibeau> lol true enough
19:16:26 <vf2nsr> That is what my mom used to say
19:16:26 <ZachThibeau> speaking of hair, I need to go to a hair dresser and get my hair cut, my mop needs shortened and heat released

19:37:50 <pa_1078> hello
19:38:15 <JohnTHaller> hello, how can we help you?
19:38:35 <pa_1078> can i make a link so it can go to .exe
19:38:49 <JohnTHaller> You mean a shortcut?
19:38:54 <pa_1078> yes
19:39:22 <JohnTHaller> On your local computer, you just right-click an EXE and select 'Create shortcut'
19:40:01 <pa_1078> ok but it will not show on portable apps
19:40:22 <JohnTHaller> So, you want another EXE to show up in the PA.c Platform, that's what you mena?
19:40:32 <pa_1078> yes
19:40:47 <JohnTHaller> You just need to put the EXE in the right place and the PA.c Platform will find it: http://portableapps.com/support/portable_apps_suite#addingotherapps

21:58:12 <Rick___> Greetings. I am looking for some help with the Autorun.inf file
21:58:38 <JohnTHaller> What kind of help do you need Rick___?
21:59:09 <Rick___> Maybe that's not even the problem.
21:59:32 <Rick___> If I insert an empty Flash Drive, the Autoplay screen that pops up is the generic one.
22:00:01 <JohnTHaller> Correct. autorun.inf on flash drives is no longer supported by Windows for security reasons. It can only be used to rename a drive and change its icon.
22:00:02 <Rick___> Once I install PortableApps, the Autoplay thinks its a drive with pictures.
22:00:59 <Rick___> Is there a way to make PortableApps run then... even sorta automatically?
22:01:33 <JohnTHaller> Not directly by Windows. We do have a utility in the works. Here is an older public test of it: http://portableapps.com/node/13770
22:01:45 <Rick___> Thank you
22:01:50 <JohnTHaller> You will need to rename Start.exe to StartPortableApps.exe for now, though (the utility is meant for the older platform)
22:02:05 <Rick___> Ok, thanks
22:02:28 <JohnTHaller> Sure thing. We'll have the a final utility that the platform will let you install to your own PC done in the near future.
