08:25:49 <pa_8620> Hi, I have a problem with the settings: Whatever I change in the options for the PortableApps platform is lost after next reboot. Do I do anything wrong? Do I have to save settings somehow?
08:31:06 <TPFC-SYSTEM> pa_8620: The Platform saves its settings in PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data\PortableAppsMenu.ini.
08:32:01 <TPFC-SYSTEM> Check if the file is writable (e.g. open it in Notepad and try to edit it).
09:38:00 <pa_8620> yes, its writable. I tried something else: If I e.g. rename an app, this is updated in the ini file, but if I change any settings in the options dialog it is not written (i.e. ini file is not updated).
09:38:34 <pa_8620> Even if I change the settings, and then rename an app, the ini file is written but only the "rename" operation is reflected in the ini file
09:39:53 <TPFC-SYSTEM> Very odd. Sounds like a bug. :(
09:42:42 <TPFC-SYSTEM> It seems no one has reported such a problem.
09:43:03 <TPFC-SYSTEM> My suggestion is to edit the INI file manually. I don't have any other ideas. :(
09:46:09 <pa_8620> Oh, now I changed settings, and afterwards pressed the "Close" button. This leads to a newly saved ini file with all changes! After reopening the platform all changes are there. Strange.
09:47:00 <TPFC-SYSTEM> Indeed.
09:47:08 <TPFC-SYSTEM> At least it works now? :)
09:47:17 <pa_8620> yes ;-)
09:47:45 <TPFC-SYSTEM> Great. :)

21:50:46 <JAWS> hi, congrats on all the releases in the past few days!
21:53:48 <JAWS> I was wondering if it is possible for apps such as AssaultCube, to have a second "profile" so as to use one profile on an old PC with the graphics settings on low and another profile for the higher end PCs
21:54:46 <JohnTHaller> You'd need to ask the specific devs of those online. As a temporary workaround, you can just rename Data to DataNew and then create a fresh profile for an old PC as Data. And rename them back and forth.
21:56:30 <JAWS> evertime I want to switch or would it be easier to copy the whole app and rename that folder?
21:59:36 <JohnTHaller> You could do that, too. It would be easier if you don't mind losing the space. And you'll need to manually update that second copy of the app for now. Be sure to tile the second copy as AssaultCubePortable_Copy_2 as we'll be supporting that in the future for automatic upgrades in the platform.
22:01:18 <JAWS> ok, that sounds good
22:01:26 <JAWS> Thanks for the help! ;)

22:49:35 <kAlug> How is it going John?
22:52:12 <JohnTHaller> Not bad. Busy busy. You?
22:55:25 <kAlug> I think this is one of the best Fridays I ever had. Everything is going into their places.
22:56:05 <kAlug> BTW, I was thinking, what about eventually renaming the PortableApps.com Installer to something like e.g. PortableApps.com App Packager?
22:57:10 <JohnTHaller> Been testing PAL and found this: http://portableapps.com/node/32091#comment-194410
22:57:33 <JohnTHaller> The eventual idea is to combine PAL, PAI into a packaging kit that contains everything you need.
22:58:04 <kAlug> http://portableapps.hg.sourceforge.net/hgweb/portableapps/launcher/rev/8f2fd3a489ef
22:58:54 <kAlug> We need another RC.
22:58:55 <JohnTHaller> Ah ok. Gonna push out another dev build?
22:59:18 <JohnTHaller> Yeah, ASAP. I'm at the point where I have to start updating old apps to the new installer (so they'll work on >2GB drives).
22:59:38 <kAlug> That reminds me... new translations...
22:59:52 <JohnTHaller> I'm pushing out the ones that don't use PAL first without upgrading them to PAL (because they work on UNC).
23:00:39 <kAlug> BTW, 1) was it decided if the warning should be enabled by default?
23:00:43 <JohnTHaller> Do we have new PAL translations?
23:01:03 <kAlug> Yep. And PAI, from what I saw for 3.0.2.
23:01:24 <JohnTHaller> If you guys want it enabled by default, it can be. It just means I gotta double check things like DirectoryMoveOK
23:04:00 <kAlug> Hmm... I think I'd prefer to err on the safe side (i.e. warn). But you have a point too...
23:04:36 <kAlug> Anyway, can you upload PAI's English.nsh and PortugueseBR.nsh? I can't access my copy of it right now.
23:06:52 <JohnTHaller> Sure, just a sec

23:23:26 <JohnTHaller> Only 2 apps I know of have issues. Google Chrome and AppCompactor.
23:23:35 <Kieran> the app was Microsoft Visual Basic 2008

23:26:15 <JohnTHaller> You can only redisrtibute apps with permission. Open source licenses nearly always give you that permission (except certain trademarks). Freeware licenses VERY rarely give you that permission. VB's does not.

23:27:34 <Kieran> what do you mean?
23:27:55 <JohnTHaller> It's not a PAc installer. SO I'd guess a WinRAR self executable or something?
23:28:49 <Kieran> no its just a .exe
23:30:13 <JohnTHaller> it's just one EXE though, not the whole app, so it won't work by itself anywya
